Wings Of Prey environment in SF
Julhelm replied to squid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Agreed. It definitely does not have simplified flightmodelling compared to any other sim. The reason it runs well is because it's optimized for quite small maps (50x50km or so) along with a reduced horizon distance and heavy use of hazing. Long view distances are the prime reason most sims are GPU intensive. Furthermore there are new techniques for render optimizing such as instancing where you can reduce the number of drawcalls in a scene. -

I'm not seeing it on the nozzles. If you have the original highpoly model you could do a quick bake. Using photoshop has it's limitations. -

It's unfortunate that we don't have specular maps as well as the means to control reflection power using a texture. Then we could get nice reflective effects like I did with a realtime cgfx shader on the Skyray: -
Wings Of Prey environment in SF

Well the maps are much smaller as is the viewdistance, and I suppose it relies heavily on instancing for all the scenery objects. -

When it works, it works on groundobjects, too: -

Yes on all counts. It's wierd because in FE2 it's working, the exporter says the bumpmaps are there but I get nothing ingame. -

I can't get it to load my normalmap for the life of it. I'm using the default settings in max but no go :( -

Are those unedited pics, Wretched? -
Yes, the judges here have a tendency to view acts of violence totally out of context. So a shooting is a shooting whether it's an assassination or someone defending his house. Also we have a 'duty to retreat' which pretty much outlaws any form of self defence. Then again there is pretty much zero police presence around here so I'm quite certain one could get away with capping an intruder and then disposing of his body.

Does it have specular mapping too? -
Sukhoi T-50 PAK FA - first flight!

Yes but they're worthless at high AOA which is why all subsequent designs have been compromises optimized for maneuverability. -

Those fairings under the wing probably house the hydraulic actuators for the movable LERX. Also, as far as RCS goes, it's been stated that it should have the RCS of a 2-rubel coin. The .5m2 figure comes from an old indian news article and cannot be trusted. As for the burner cans, the F-35 has one too. -

The whole nose and cockpit area is really reminiscent of the YF-23. -

It's not a demonstrator - it's a prototype. Big difference. Meanwhile the Berkut was never intended as anything other than an FSW demonstrator. -

WIP SF2 F14
Julhelm replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well unless this update also gives us some proper bump/specular mapping I won't bother with it. Not having anything other than simple diffuse maps is what makes this engine look dated. -

What kind of obsolete rig are you running? It's not like it costs a fortune to upgrade, you know. -
It's a generalization for the proverbial 'man on the street'.

When I talk about Joe Sixpack or Average Joe I mean the average guy on the street. Over here the term for that is 'Svensson'. Also, like I said the crux with integration is that you almost have to expect that most of the 1st generation immigrants will likely be lost causes as far as adapting goes. You can't teach old dogs to sit and all that (well actually you can but it requires knowledge on how to properly motivate and reward the dog). Generally immigrants adapt better if they have a chance to interact with the indigenous population and the best way of course is by having a job. But you can't expect an adult to simply become american or become swedish (whatever being american or swedish actually means) and not try to cling to their heritage and culture. If you were to emigrate to somewhere else, surely you would seek the comfort of your fellow countrymen where you can speak english and watch football? Doesn't that seem easier than trying to approach people who not only have totally different norms and values than you may have, but in many cases may also be suspicious of you or downright hostile? The thing is, you as an adult have the means to make the choice of isolating yourself with your peers and not interact with society as a whole, but your kids will be forced to be part of and interact with society whether you or they want it or not, and there's our chance to shape and integrate new people into loyal citizens who adher to values of democracy and equality. But it's not their responsibility to integrate. You and I have a responsibility as well to help them do so, and if we don't, then they won't integrate and it becomes a problem for society. Of course a lot of 1st gen immigrants want to become that too (my partner, for instance) but there are always those who don't, and the correct way to handle things is to make sure their influence on the 2nd generation is as diminished as possible.

Actually I was not aware of it referring to a certain group of americans. I always thought it was synonymous with 'average joe'.
