First flight has been pushed back to 2010. -

There is another one on Josef Gatial's site that looks similar to the YF-22. Yours looks like a Berkut with normal wings. -
Are flight sims going out of style?
Julhelm replied to Emp_Palpatine's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
Instant Gratification has been around since the 80s and really took off the last 8 years as easy loans and seemingly unlimited credit enabled people to spend well over their limits. Of course kids will pick up that same mindset when they see their parents buying cars and 40" flatscreen TV's "when they want it". -

You can build it with ultrapowerful flaps instead. -

It's in the polishing state now. Maybe Canadair can post some pics since he has a beta version. -

Nice Shadowcat skins. It's too bad that the model itself sucks donkey balls :( -
Likely the kid isn't his, since he hasn't hit puberty yet.

My Projects (EricJ)
Julhelm replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
What I said applies more to things like props that are instanced many hundred times onscreen. For instance if you build a house that uses the walls from one model and the roof from another and you simply use both textures instead of combining them into your own. In SF terms it applies to 3rd party cockpits that often source from the "stock" gauges. Anyway as for optimizing performance, there really exists no point in having a model with a resolution higher than, say, 1000 tris at distances beyond 1-2 miles in this game. You can whip up the final lod in an hour just by modeling around the highres mesh but keeping it free of all unnecessary detail. Just trying to be helpful here, that's all. -

Yeah well, the biggest problem these days is memory leaks induced by ineffective texture usage. -

You can actually have a final lod that is only <500 tris. -
F-100 vs MiG-17 strategy
Julhelm replied to KingLear's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can use the F-100's peculiar stall characteristics to your advantage. If flown correctly, the hun is actually more agile than the MiG below 350kts. -
Perhaps the last thread I ever start about Thirdwire avionics
Julhelm replied to GwynO's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I can't see how it could be so difficult to design a one size fits all type of divetoss/laydown system. Because every single system pretty much does the same thing, the only real difference as far as the player is concerned would be how the steering info is relayed to him via the instrument panel. -
Why would it have to start over from scratch?

Flight of the Intruder
Julhelm replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually the USAF wasn't in anyway involved with that series as it is policy not to associate with productions that feature aircraft being stolen. The aircraft in the movies are all from the IAF. -
I'm looking forward to this. Finally a decent jet-based actiongame for the pc that doesn't require a degree in switchology and a masters in modern avionics.

They've dropped the studio, not the franchise itself

Interestingly the G8 is very similar to Vought's VFX submission. -

Do you think you could split up the wings into sections, each pivoted to the previous one, and then control the animation with "automatic_aerodynamic_load" via the ini? If it works it would simulate wingloading. -
Other F-111 Projects Left to Do
Julhelm replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Oh, and another thing: It'd be interesting to do the Boeing competitor which was really what the USAF wanted, but somehow GD in Fort Worth got the contract, lol. -

Just imagine if McNamara had never existed. Then the navy would've been stuck with the F-6D Missileer - Talk about a one-trick turd. -

Ambient Occlusion means ambient shadows found in nooks and corners where light doesn't really reach. Basically if you have a >90 degree corner, light will not travel all the way in and you will get shadowing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambient_occlusion You can easily paint this by hand, though I personally prefer to bake it onto the map from a 3d app. -

Could you do an ambient occlusion pass as well? That'd look ace I think. -

Well I did post the templates so there's nothing stopping anyone from trying. -
lol, Ubisoft is already staffing up in anticipation of the recession ending. I wouldn't cry wolf yet.

The AC-27 looks like a modern equivalent of the 'nam-era AC-123 'Black Spot'. Personally I'd like to see the 'Credible Chase' concept revisited, especially now when we're fighting mostly COIN ops anyway.
