Finally Going to Start Playing OFF - Need PC Help
Barkhorn1x replied to Cody Coyote's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
OFF benefits from a powerful CPU - so max that out - and then get a decent vid card - or two - and at least 4 Gigs of RAM. Best approach: Pick one out and then post the specs. There are a few here who will tell you if you are doing the right thing. -
Finally Going to Start Playing OFF - Need PC Help

I went w/ these guys about 6 months ago: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ Excellent service and value. -
Glad you got that sorted.

I am in the midst of Jasta 65 campaign *** in July of 1918 and I have just faced off against Esc. 38 - not soo good, and Esc. 31 - crazy good. So perhaps it is indeed the squad quality. *** Flying the 7 Swabians skin of Gefreiter Wilhelm Scheutzel - only one of the best GAS paint jobs ever - unusually the right side graphic is different from the port side. (the scaled down screenshot does not do it justice).

Excellent advice HS.

Practice/practice/practice. You conciously have to tell yourself to not grip the stick tightly and to not move anything but your trgger finger when you fire. It is a journey to be sure - but will eventually become second nature.
-
Oh...the DrI is tops in a turn fight. And Olham, you are an Alb expert ( ) and hardly a run of the mill pilot. When I fly a DV/DVa I end up "low, slow and out of ideas". Then its curtains ( )

My advice posted from the Tech thread: - 1918 is HARD for the Germans (GAS) as there are so many Allied (Entente) crates about - 1916 - 1917 is more "balanced" - But...the GAS planes must be flown correctly (never turn fight in an AlB DV and rarely in a Pfalz - they bleed speed rapidly and then - curtains ). - Try to stay w/ the first flight so, if a scrap develops, you will have 8 vs. X instead of 4 vs. X. - Pick a plane and really LEARN that plane. I prefer the Fokkers (DrI & DVII - and I do fight in 1918 - but I've been at this awhile). And I still get shot down. - When outnumbered - run - unless you are real good. - Try not to fight on the wrong side of the lines - this is one area where the historical accuracy of the sim falls short for the GAS as there are too many attack missions on Entente facilities than was historically the case. - CHECK YOUR SIX - - OFTEN !!! - target fixation gets you killed. - Get Track IR and rudder pedals - these will allow you to fly more "naturally" so you can concentrate on SA and tactics. - Practice, practice, practice. Set up a pilot and fly him in Quick Combat against various opponents. Be sure to check the Pilot Never Dies box (or some such - it's below the weather variables boxes) so you don't have to constantly re-enlist pilots. Good luck w/ the best WWI sim to date.

Never had that happen to me. Be sure to cycle through the TAC to select a/c only. This filter will ensure you don't get jumped.

Understood. I will check it out. Thanks for the feedback.

Your Family Name in a German Jasta ?
Barkhorn1x replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
On a somewhat related note - I use my GoG references to use a historic pilot name for the Jastas I fly in. For instance my current pilot for Jast 65 is Arno Benzler. More immersion I think. -
Understood. But what effect will turning down the altitude have on enemy a/c? Will they be correspondigly lower as well - or will I become a sitting duck for enemy a/c to swoop down upon?
-
Yes, Boelcke is relevant - he wrote the book after all. But go ahead and post in General Discussions as it will give me a chance to post my laundry list again.

Better off posting a question like this in General Discussions as not as many people visit the tech section. This is going to revolutionize how I play OFF
Barkhorn1x replied to appraiserfl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'll pass then - and be content to sift thru your garbage. -
Hmmm...this would depend on whether enemy a/c start the mission in the air or start on the ground. And, if they start on the ground, do all a/c start at the same time or can it be staggered? OK - here is a suggested improvement: Cut down on the number of waypoints included in a mission. Each campaign mission has about 10 waypoints and half of these are little more than stooging around your own base. Cut those out and the missions will go a bit quicker and smoother.

Believe it is OOO - three times. Out of the Office indeed! -
Nope - nothing comparable to Il-2 or the "other" WWI sim. Shame but that is the way it is - at least for now.

Track IR/Snap View Trouble & General Difficulty
Barkhorn1x replied to Jiggs_Casey's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
This sim rewards time and effort. There is just no getting away from that. Don't stop asking questions either. There is a lot to digest here. Regarding graphics - not only are the sliders important but so are the custom settings hidden away in the config menue. What kind of card do you have? Tell us and we can provide the correct link on the OFF site -
Welcome to the forum. Hellshade - the video guy is using Creaghorn's Homebrew mod - go here: http://combatace.com/files/category/354-modding-tools-and-add-on-software/ ...and yes, that snap to the left sounds like a controller conflict. If you have rudder pedals and a twisty stick, be sure to delete the stick rudder entry via the CFS3 Controller interface.

Appraiser. Can you adopt me? Please!! -
Indeed RAF - that French uniform is top notch. But, my god man, treat yourself to a wide screen LCD - OFF will look sooo much better.

Good one. -
Happy 4th everyone.

True, and I have one as well. I did a number of tests using AMD Fusion and another program that allows you assign specific programs to specific cores. Saw NO difference in performance for OFF. In short = don't waste your time on that stuff.
