  1. Just got this for P4 http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktop-monitors/lcd/x-series/vx2739wm.htm And on a another note I also won a bet with the wife and now I get a new computer. In the opinion of the tech pros here what would be the minimum Intel-brand CPU, Nvidia-brand graphics card, and amount of RAM I should have to (probably) run P4 at "maximum" settings?
  2. Getting ready for P4

I do not believe the above numbers reference monitor refresh rate directly but I am not a video expert by any stretch! "60" is all that's available via Window and Nvidia Control panels. Some tweak program probably could run it up (maybe at the cost of damaging the monitor?) but, as stated previously, I am not seeing any kind of quality difference.
  3. Getting ready for P4

Thanks for the additional considerations. Reference the monitor its 60hz refresh only. That originally gave me a pause but reading up on the subject seemed to indicate it would not be an issue. After testing/playing all my sims on it that seems to be correct - I do not notice any kind of difference.
  4. Getting ready for P4

Excellent! Thanks Parky. Now to shop!
  5. Wow...even modeling the damn jam-hammer. You go OBD!
  6. 1917(1) MOD

    Excellent! Well done! Bravo! S!
  7. Was flying with Jasta 11 in March 1917 on a ballon defense mission. Got near our balloon and was attacked. Just began to maneuver, I think there was some shooting and I may have been hit based on sounds. Then screen went black and back to briefing screen. On the replay the I get an error message where OFF crashed and it stops. In looking at the OFFLog.txt I see alot of skins can't be found though most are apparently replaced except enemy ace Caldwell...if I am reading it correctly. Only mod is the latest damage mod. OFFLog.txt attached. Any ideas? OFFLog.txt
  8. Recently had a OFF crash and I posted my OFFlog.txt. One of the devs felt it may be a hardware problem but in checking everything that does not seem to be the case. When OFF crashed combat was just starting and it seemed that the second I was hit (based on bullet impact sounds) OFF crashed and dropped to the Briefing Screen. All temperatures, all other programs (much more graphic intensive then OFF based on graphic card fan speed) all run fine for long periods so I don't think its a hardware issue. The only major change to OFF settings lately has been Hellshades "cloud popping" tweak (Z-bias to 13/Clouds z-bias to 0) and, while it was real cloudy and stormy, I was flying for a long while in it with no problems. The (apparent - not 100%) fact that when I was hit I crashed makes me think it could be the latest damage mod...maybe. Has anyone had a problem with it? Since I have never read of a problem I will guess not?
  9. HPWDMv2.5 problems?

HPW I am just trying to find an answer and I don't think the crash is graphics related either. Anyway here is the .xdp file. Thanks for checking. Oops, no .xdp files allowed/had to change it to a .txt file Alb_DIII_QC1.txt
  10. HPWDMv2.5 problems?

    That was my thought also.
  11. HPWDMv2.5 problems?

I can't imagine. I run a lot of more graphics intensive programs then OFF and in OFF my framerates are high and steady so I don't think so. Is there some kind of visual component to HPWDMv2.5 that is graphically taxing?
  12. For the Devs....OFF crash

It does help thank you. As long as it not OFF I can track it down. I hoped the bottom part was like a fingerprint with all its numbers: "--Campaign: Returning from CFS3 and Setting Up !!Mission Replay encountered an error decoding: 2011/03/02 21:25:37 00000954 ;Periodic;1368.1250;0x04011018;Alb.D.III (160);N50*20'39.7841;E2*57'38.9380;1468;1416;2.2;-33.7;29.9;45.1;994;0;60.7;0;0 !!Mission Replay encountered an error decoding: 2011/03/02 21:25:37 00000954 ;Periodic;1368.1250;0x04011018;Alb.D.III (160);N50*20'39.7841;E2*57'38.9380;1468;1416;2.2;-33.7;29.9;45.1;994;0;60.7;0;0 --Campaign: Exiting --OFF: Exit normally" We'll track 'er down.
  13. Air Start?

Did a Forum search and had no luck. Had little time so I thought I would check the "Air Start" box on the Briefing Screen. Tried this twice and both times ended poorly for my poor pilot. I started in the air alright but was totally confused about where I was. I was assigned a Balloon Busting mission and apparently was in the air behind enemy lines - at least per the map. Except I never a waypoint line as to where I was supposed to go next so while gadding about I was shot down. Is there a set format as to where an "Air Start" places you? Thanks! EDIT: Upon further reflection the lack of a waypoint line means I am being "Air Started" right over my target?
  14. Air Start?

Thanks for the info. Forewarned is forearmed!
  15. Scramble!?

For those who wish a more seamless experience, i.e., not using the Advance Time feature, modifying the mission files is quite easy...if you just "cut n paste". I recommend replacing instead of deletions as there are extra numbers, at the top of the .txts file for example, that I am unsure how they work or what they do. For the German and British 1917 fighter missions, where I do the bulk of my flying, I just replaced the Scramble mission with another from the list I felt was more "realistic". For the Germans I replaced the Scramble mission with "Patrol Friendly Front Lines" and the British with "Patrol Enemy Front Lines" so essentially they are in the Mission list twice replacing the Scramble. So far it is working fine with no problems. This should be foolproof as the file is not being really being changed just the Scramble mission replaced with another. Actually these files are quite the treasure trove as you can modify your experience (career missions) to whatever you think is realistic for both fighter and the two-seater campaigns for whatever year. For the Devs, if you are still looking in on this post, do all mission types listed have an equal chance of appearing?
  16. Scramble!?

Doesn't that work then only when I am flying for the French? Muwahaha...oh, I kill myself....I got a million of 'em....two shows on Saturday everyone.
  17. Wow What a Difference

Boy am I stupid!!! Apparently because of my older monitor, that is now broken and I am using a temp pending my new one, I have using my DVI capable system and converting it to the old VGA standard so it would work with my old monitor! Doh! Double Doh!! Thanks CaptSopwith for the technical kick in the pants!
  18. Wow What a Difference

Well, it would appear that my new monitor (that is shipping) can hang with the DVI but my older video card (Nvidia 7950GT) almost certainly does not have a DVI hook-up...maybe...more research needed. I would presume the use of a "adapter" negates the benefit of DVI. Tech gurus? EDIT: According to specs my card appears to be DVI capable - at least dual DVI is mentioned,
  19. Wow What a Difference

Thanks for the tip! Now to research to see if I can benefit from this advice.
  20. Scramble!?

Well yes I figured. I guess my comment was more for the current users of P3 who wish to make what would appear to be an easy change. I am certainly going to give it a shot...probably the "cut n paste" method since I see extra numbers in there near the top of the file and are unsure of the overall relationship. Keep focused on P4!
  21. Scramble!?

Since it seems that the bulk of the OFF variables are covered by .xml files I would guess there is a mission parameter files somewhere? It can't be in the CFS3.exe file so it "should be an easy fix." Where are the OFF files gurus when you need them? EDIT: Well, that was easy. In the ..../campaigns/campaigndata folder there are the mission types defined in files for fighters and bombers and by year. For example "BritainBomberMissionTypes1915.txt" and there's the "Scamble" mission listed there bold as brass. Now to figure how to change it without crashing OFF. Might be easier to "cut n paste" another mission from the list (that you like better or is more realistic) or maybe a deletion might be easier. Have to examine closer.
  22. Was just getting ready to start a campaign mission for 60 Squadron in March, 1917 and the Mission Briefing screen set me to pondering again. I understand why we select a reduced fuel load in game (OFF) terms but is there any precedent in the historical (real life) arena? Somehow I cannot see an aircraft taking off on a war flight with less than everything maxed out. Certainly for the British, who flew far ranging missions over the lines, I cannot imagine starting off with less than a full load of fuel. Can't see it in "real life" either for the Germans who, presumably, flew shorter range missions and for whom the consequences of running out of petrol were less disastrous.
  23. Historical precedent for reduced fuel load?

Since we are quoting MvR combat reports I got my book out of them that has them all - translated to English of course. I fell asleep but looked at his first 30 claims I think. In about half he mentions ammo usage. About a third of those have it listed at 500+ shots. This is strictly "unscientific". When I get the go-juice I will go through them all and write it down unless someone here beats me to it.
  24. Indispensable add-on! Hard to imagine only 38 downloads...must be a typo!
