Does anyone know a way to mod the Tac screen, perhaps via a .xml file, so that it displays ONLY the direction to the next waypoint and nothing else - no aircraft, ground targets, etc. Olham posted once on how to change the colors on the Tac screen via the .xml so I think its possible. On that subject what program do folks here like to use to change .xml files?

How are you testing framerates?
DukeIronHand replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Tried your suggestion and did the 12 Spad v 12 Fokker scenario. Even with all the A/C in the air my framerate doubled but no matter what my video settings were at it stayed the same...about 40 in the cockpit view...weird. Exterior views the same also. -
Oi! Thanks!

Modding the Tac screen...
DukeIronHand replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Ach! So much for my first OFF "mod"...hehe And am I reading too much into another post of yours in another thread...are you Von Stachel of RB3D fame? Edited for spelling...need more coffee -
Thanks for the information and answer. Redoing all the stock skins for a model change would be, I think, a massive undertaking! I think I can d/l fairly confidently.

Ah...thank you. Now to find the "Air", "Ground", and "Ship" labels. -
Modding the Tac screen...
DukeIronHand replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, the in-game map is quite horrible. Another pet peeve of mine. I don't think that the ViewUI.xml file is going to be my ticket. I can changed the colors but I can't see the Tac labels (Ships, Ground, Air) in it. I'll have to look elsewhere. And Olham - where did you change the size of the Tac screen? In the MS XML editor that I am using I did not see size of the Tac screen mentioned anywhere. -
Yes, women and OFF are like oil and water in my experience. Least my children are all grown up. Edit: Weird double post. Must be a female OFF'er in here.

Excellent. Thank you.

Hehe...turned out it was easier to search the word "Tac" than to scroll through all of Olhams posts! -
Modding the Tac screen...
DukeIronHand replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes that is the easiest. Thanks Von Baur. I need to find your post Olham on the .xml file that controls the Tac screen so I can take out the word "Ships" out of it. I will leave it blanks or, at worst, change "Ships to "Nav". And make ships transparent while I am there! Edit: Finding that post may be tough - really Olham...8,609 posts!?! -
Apparently I have missed something? Olhams FOV settings?

How come not a lot of modding?

I suspect there is much truth in your statement! -
How come not a lot of modding?

"Herr Prop-Wasche[/b] made a different DM and FM; Creaghorn made sound and tracer files..." And I use them, great work, and yes we have fine skinners - yourself among them Olham. I guess my fantasy is a large, dedicated, and skilled fanbase (fans - not the hardworking devs) doing things like Pat Wilson (modding for RoF now), Capt. Darwin, Otto von Stachel, our own devs did for RB3D, like the Grey Wolves team did for SH3, like was what done for SH4 by the fans, like the fans here at CA modding new aircraft, effects, etc for First Eagles, the truckload of user made files for Oblivion and Fallout, the gents who have extended the already fruitful life of IL2 with the UOP's and Ultrapack. These things happen when you have a large enough fanbase. That is all I am saying. Don't burn me as a heretic! If I get a OFF tattoo will I be forgiven? -
How come not a lot of modding?
DukeIronHand replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
While I am not disagreeing with anything said here I find the "P4 is pending" logic to be specious at best -especially based on past, and predicted, trends. I am not "mf"-ing the devs or anyone else. They have indeed worked wonders with CFS3. And OFF is the greatest perhaps because I am such a fan of WW1 aviation. I really do like it. I guess my main point is that: 1) There are plenty of things that could be fixed/tweaked/modded/improved upon in OFF. 2) Our dedicated user base is too small to bring in fan-based tweakers, fixers, new ideas, visionaries, madmen etc to work on these issues. A prime example is new aircraft. One of the main requests in the P4 wish list thread was more two-seaters. What flight sim does not have fans making a boatload of add-on aircraft? Again, OFF is the greatest but I think we need, somehow, to bring more bodies into the fold...new blood so to speak...and numbers. If P4 is indeed "pending" perhaps it is time to make OFF a free download while still charging for HitR. In biology, for a population to be viable, it must have sufficient numbers to remain dynamic. We need a bigger fan base to be viable and to draw in the people that keep making old sims new, exciting, and better. Just my two cents! Edited for grammar..oops. -
How come not a lot of modding?

"I would rather spend my time flying in the virtual skies than trying to..." I guess that's my point. Most of us would agree with you but with a much larger fan base there are always people who are "born tweakers" or "fixers" who love to goof with programming things. Our smaller user base minimizes our chances of having such "fixers" And yes Creaghorn...your Sound Tweak is excellent and an example of a "mod" that I wish we had dozens to choose from. -
I figured the DDS format would stay the same. Size may change but that is not always a problem. My thought was the model format for the plane objects - if they change that (I think) then the old skins would not work? I have to admit I am not overly familiar with the OFF/CFS3 files system but it is "roughly" similar to CFS2 which I remember from the past.

This is probably a dumb question but... When setting FOV in the Workshop the higher numbers means a wider field of view in the cockpit view? I am not sure I am seeing a difference and before I start testing various A/C with various settings with screenshots I wanted to make sure I was not being a total d@#$ a$$.

New TrackIR Profile for Fighters
DukeIronHand replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks Olham. Your just getting to be "Mr. Go To" lately. I also tried your settings in another post (the one with the big picture) and the "12 Spads v 12 Fokkers" that ran choppy before is now running smooth. Probably your terrain settings - I think I always try to push mine too high. And I like having the clouds at "5"...reportedly the AI cannot "see" through them - or so I read here. -
While this song is now one of my favs from the band I have always thought that "Yes" was one of the most underrated groups of the era.

Flugplatz Böblingen - Training field of FEA 10

Olham, You are the king of finding cool historical gems...keep up the great work! -
This was a plan (and a poll I believe) to reorganize the OFF Skins here at Combat Ace in some fashion. IIRC the winning plan was to organize them by A/C type. Whatever happened to this? Actually, if I was King for a Day, I wish someone could put ALL the skins in one big downloadable file., i.e. ALL the Alb DIII's in one .zip, all SE5a's in another. That would be nice! But since I am not a King are the skins pending reorganization?

A Christmas cookie for you Olham, and a glass of milk, for trying to help the crazy old man. Happy Holidays!
