KavahSturmovik Posted Friday at 10:24 PM Posted Friday at 10:24 PM Imagine the F-111, but somewhat longer. About 6-8 meters. With a pair of over and under engines, how many pounds of thrust would that be? And would you think it would be a reliable low altitude strike aircraft?
daddyairplanes Posted Friday at 11:56 PM Posted Friday at 11:56 PM you mean the FB-111H? https://www.twz.com/38621/this-stretched-super-fb-111-was-a-low-cost-challenger-to-the-b-1-bomber mightve been, but i do like the Bone better..... 1
KavahSturmovik Posted yesterday at 04:44 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:44 AM No. I'm talking a pair of over and under engines like the British electric lightning. So, 4 engines total.
Shaolin Posted yesterday at 06:57 AM Posted yesterday at 06:57 AM You can't just take a design like the F-111 and slap additional engines on top of the existing ones. That would completely destroy the aerodynamics, especially as it is a lifting body design. And I don't even want to think about the maintanance nightmare it would create. The only four engine designs with four engines in a configuration where two of them were on top of each other that I know of, had them in pods in the wings. And even they did not get to actual production... So no, not a feasable idea, sorry.
