Lots of questions

Recommended Posts

I am a dedicated Il-2 person, and normally pay little attention to other flight games. Lately I am getting a bit tired of WW2, and want something different. LOMAC is just too damn complicated; I have a copy of WOV somewhere, but never even installed it. I was going to get Strike Fighters, but there is Project:1 and the Gold Edition. Who puts this game out, Third Wire or GMX? What is the difference? Also, where are all these downloads for SF and WOV? I read about all this cool stuff like more planes, targets, and weapons; where do I download all this? Does this series make a merged install like the Il-2 series, or are they all separate non-compatible games? Lastly, are these games easier to manage than LOMAC? I can't deal with 20 modes of radar, 10 HUD displays, and 300 key/button combos. It takes all the fun out of the game messing with that stuff.

To know which verison is which I would say head over of www.column5.us and check out thier verison comparison chart, here

THe downloads for this game like new aircraft are stretch through out a number of various websites like CombatAce, Column5, and Check-six (a french languaged site). TO get the downloads here at CombatAce click on the "Downloads" button at the top of the forums menu and then select the game you want to search for files from.

As of right now, and as far as I understand it, Wings Over Europe (WOE) is the only one that does a merged install of Vietnam and European Terrian and there respective aircraft. So you could if you felt like it fly an F-15A over North Vietnam in escort of F-105's or fly an A-6A into Central Eurpe to attack a Runway. However, a few people have been working on trying to merge the orignal game SFP1 into WOE (or the other way). I haven't heard about thier success yet.

The whole game series has been designed by Third Wire Productions to be simple to do and fly. All you need to do even in the hardest settings is to fire up the game select your pilot, plane, theater, and go from there. A couple of quick button to change your radar type and then you are good to go and be out there busting MiGs and Yaks left and right.

Third Wire is the game developer.

GMX, Bold Games etc. are the publishers.

& yes, radar etc. are simpler than in LOMAC or Falcon4.

There will shortly also be a WWI sim released using the same game engine from Third Wire.

Why don't you install WOV, fully patch it, play it like that for a while to get the hang of the controls etc. & then you can start modding it with extra aircraft, weapons, terrains, campaigns etc. etc.?

Thanks. I found the FAQ which has some answers. I like playing this. I have a copy of SFP1 and WOE coming. This game is what I was looking for. I give up on Falcon 4.0 and LOMAC. I want to fly like a real fighter pilot, not an aerial computer systems operator.

When men were men, and targets were... unlucky, not just 'marked for death with a laser spot'

If you really want to rock, check out Yankee Air Pirate for Wings Over Vietnam. All the atmosphere, authenticity, detailed mission briefings and a heap of addon stuff. If starting out with a fresh install of WoV you can't do better IMHO!
