I've done it! I can take off from carriers in WoE!

I downloaded the CVN-75 by Digital-Overload and installed it as per his instructions. I also got my hands on Kreelin's mission editor and the help file by Streakeagle. I followed the readme in Kreelin's zip folder, as well as the help file and I kept crashing into either the carrier or the ocean. I was just about to start pulling my hair out, when I noticed in the mission editior my flight didn't have the check box marked 'take off' checked. I did this and it bought up an assign box with the carrier's name in it. I highlighted it and assigned the flight to the carrier. Now I can take off! Yay! :biggrin: The carrier even animates the blast shield and catapault! If you release the brakes the A/C will be catapulted with max AB, just remember to throttle up as soon as you're airborne.

So the moral is: get the mission editor and physically check the take-off box, so the assign box pops up. Also, at the top of the waypoint page, your start point co-ordinates are there. Just to be sure, make sure the A/C is facing the same way as the carrier.

I've also created a simple strike mission from a carrier. If anyone would like it, I'll paste the code for it. You'll obviously need a carrier and a A/G capable Navy Aircraft. I used the Hornet, but you should be able to use anything. The mission editor makes it really easy, thanks heaps Kreelin!! :clapping:

I've been browsing the carrier related threads for some time (as well as trying out the knowledge base article), trying to be able to take off from "Korean Air War" carriers (they are already established in the campaign download). This 2007 KAW carrier thread was posted and got no replies.

 

There are many threads with carrier issues, and I think there may be many different problems. I saw on one CA thread a link to a SimHQ thread that supposidely had some answers about the way the objects folder structure has changed with the last SF patch, but the link was dead... go figure...

 

But none of the fixes posted thus far have helped; each time the loadout screen finishes and there is an "Earth-shattering-Kaboom" over the open ocean. I assume the plane has exploded taking the carrier with it?

 

Is the fix you describe a fix for single missions only do you think? I'm just about to give up on naval aviation...

one of the mods to the Korean War campaign broke the carrier. I haven't been able to reconstruct it. A new upgrade is in the works so I shelved that particular aspect for now. The Bering St one is broken too.

 

The Taiwan one works fine, not to mention Vietnam. Also if you go browse for the Libya Warlord there is a good carrier campaign in there.

The original Korea terrain (from Major Lee's site) didn't have proper water, so carriers couldn't work on it. Not sure about the update, and the new KAW mod (by USAFMTL & co.) AFAIK doesn't have carriers. I just got a new computer (and am happy to say that this series works reasonably well in Vista) so I'll be trying out the KAW mod, as well as DBS... with carriers.

The only change to ships with SP4, is that with all ground objects, there are new lines to be put at the top, as opposed to the groundobject.ini (see knowledge base), and also, .TGAs work on them, so the WoV carriers now have numbers.

 

What could be causing your problem is assignment of a squadron to a non-existent carrier, or a carrier station not working. When I've fiddled around with it, though is that I started on water, not exploding. Your problem might be with the old Korea terrain not supporting working carriers.

 

And carriers only work in campaigns or scripted missions.

What mod was it?

 

I don't remember. I did a couple of carrier campaigns in Korea and then loaded in some terrain mod because the objects on land wouldnt' come up. No buildings (targets). After I did that, the carriers didn't work.

I did have the old Mjr Lee KAW running, BUT I did a clean install with the latest available KAW download from CA, Oct 2006, which has carriers built in, so I'd assume they've worked for someone and that sqdrns and Carriers were matched.

 

Yes, I'm trying to take off from a campaign mission, but only get an instant explosion and voice-over "check friendly fire"...

 

I've tried the carrier deck height fix, ran over all the folders and names, etc. to no avail. Ahh, its no big deal...
