hurricane3 2 Posted June 7, 2007 I downloaded the Sopwith Triplane from the Capuns site ,and the missions to go with it(or was it from here, with only two brain cells left I don't remember) ,anyway when I fly the missions, one is againest Abatrosses D5a's ,(two actually) the other is againest the Fokker triplane(this can;t be real accurate as I think the Sopwith was withdrawn from service before the Fokker came into service. Anyway you can fly around forever and not encounter any enemy EA. Ypu can shoot down a lot of observation ballons ,which is fun but you never encounter any enemy EA. Even when you get near a German airfield ,you get lots of flack but no EA. I haven't had time to read the manual yet so maybe I'am doing something wrong, but only in quick combat do you encounter lots of Ea.) Am I doing something wrong?I do get and encounter with other planes in single missions but not a lot. Also the AI planes act really strange ,preforming manuver's that are seemingly impossible before they finally decide to attack. And if your not throttled up they always collide with you after firing. Just a few thoughts for what it's worth(I don't have that many)
+peter01 2 Posted June 7, 2007 (edited) Like to help Hurricane, but its a bit hard, no details really, and many comments, some confusion (eg there is no Quick Combat as such, there is Instant Action, Single Mission, the latter has two options). Its a good idea to read some of the manual too. I'll just guess some things: You are talking about Single Missions -> Create Mission?????? In this, for plane choose "Spad XIII C.3", for Enemy Activity choose "Heavy", for year "1918", AND for mission type choose "Offensive patrol" or "Defensive Patrol" DO NOT select reconnaisance bomb targets army support balloon busting etc - its quite possible in these types of missions you won't see enemy aircraft. If this doesn't work, then you definitely have a problem cos it should result in some heavy action - use the "next waypoint " command or others to get into action quicker - keyboard default is "W". +Tailspin 3 Posted June 7, 2007 Hurricane...missions, both randomly generated Single Missions and 3rd party scripted missions, are set up so you will encounter EA at the target area. One you accept the mission and go to the hangar screen you can open the planning map. There you will see a map of the area with your base and a series of waypoints leading to the target. The target is marked with a triangle on the map. You will also see a square. This is the IP or initial point. Unless its been written into the mission you will usually not encounter any EA until you reach the IP. In other words if you are just flying around and not flying to the designated target area you won't see EA. Campaigns are a little different as they aren't as restricted in scope and you will see different EA flying their own missions, however to succeed in a campaign you must still carry out your specific missions. Use your map [M] and fly to the target area. If you set enemy air activity to HEAVY as Peter suggests you will not be lacking for EA to engage.
hurricane3 2 Posted June 7, 2007 Thanks Tailspin,I guess I have to take time to read the manual. I was afraid either I was doing somethig wrong or the download went haywire. Thanks for putting my feeble mind at ease.
hurricane3 2 Posted June 23, 2007 Thanks Peter will give it a try.sorry I took so long in replying but it's been a while since I've been in the forums ,last time ther was only the post from Tailspin. But I'am wondering why only the Spad? Can I use any plane from the right period?
hurricane3 2 Posted June 23, 2007 I still haven't read the manual, and I know this is a dumb thing to do but haven't had much time between work and reinstalling FS9. But I've just been experiimenting and tried setting things like Peter said but when I do get over a German aerodrom ,I get lots of flack and a red info box about enemy antiaircraft ,but no German aircraft in sight. Do you have to get over the specific target to see enemy aircraft? It seems to take forever to get there ,matter of fact I haven't got to one(main target) yet. When I use the w key you race ahead and it will show aan enemy antiaircraft truck or ballon briefly then your back were you left off. I did mean instant action by the way, been around WW II sims too long. I have seen enemy Aircraft but very seldom. I just thought there would be more action and I have enemy activeity set to heavy. The sim seems to work perfectly other wise, if you just want to fly around and shoot up the occasional enemy aerodrom(which never have any planes on them.) Guess I'll just have to try to get to the main objective and see what happens, but all in all I'm now getting very dissapointed with this sim. Thanks
FalconC45 162 Posted June 23, 2007 Are you using the single mission option? If so what kind of mission are you flying? Defensive patrol or bombing mission? Seem like you're on a bombing mission. Falcon
+Tailspin 3 Posted June 24, 2007 Hurricane...Start a single mission...Pick an Offensive or Defensive Patrol. Once you are high enough off the ground (your alt. reading will turn from red to yellow) hit ALT + N. This will "jump" you to the IP in the target area. Keep flying toward the target waypoint and the EA should show up within a few seconds. Again, in single missions you have to go to the target area to find EA. If you just fly to any old enemy airbase or anywhere but the target waypoint (the triangle in the mission map) you won't find any EA.
