It is a Northrop YA-9A. He compete in the 70's with the A-10. Fairchild get the order to build tankbusters.

At March afb at the museumfield a YA-9A to see.

He is in a good condition (what I saw in 1998). I thought the build two planes. But maybe some-one knows more about it.

Something cool about this plane, and an excellent idea I though.

 

Theres a control or something within the cockpit that allows the pilot to literally sidestep the aircraft for strafing runs. It basically deploys the clam-shell speedbrake on one aileron combined with full opposite rudder. So, in those A2G strafing runs on trucks and tanks moving perpendicular to you, you don't have to worry about maintaining alignment, just match your sideslip with their movement rate.
