How do you add Hellfire / Brimstone missiles to the AH-1W Cobra helicopter

Hi,

could you plese tell me how i can add Hellfire/ brimstone missiles to the AH-1W SuperCobra helicopter I've got the latest weapons pack (July 3rd 2006) but Hellfires don't seem to be in the aircraft's inventory?

 

Could you please help me out?

This is using the existing weapons in the current weapons pack

 

- Modify the Data ini Weapon stations to take the AGM-114 Hellfire and 4-rocket pod

You need to look at your AGM-114 Hellfire with your weapons editor, If it set-up as a Laser Guided, you need a laser designator, if it set as Wire Guided you don't need it.

 

My set-up is highly modified so I don't remember how the AGM-114 is set up as.

Thanks for your reply... I followed your suggestions and all these weapons are available, but there's one more problem: the quantity of weapons is restricted to 1 missile per hardpoint even when the quantity of weapons in the 'loadout.ini' file is set to 4... Please could you tell me how i can fix that?

Okay, make sure you read the second post in the weapon release thread:

It talks about which weapons use which racks.

 

Also, capun's post here specified a line to add:

 

Loadout[01].WeaponType=AGM-114

Loadout[01].Quantity=4

Loadout[01].RackType=M299 <----- This line here...VERY important. Use the weapon rack names specified instead of this one.

 

Example, if you want to use AGM-114Fs, your loadout.ini points should read something like this:

 

Loadout[01].WeaponType=AGM-114F

Loadout[01].Quantity=4

Loadout[01].RackType=M-299

Loadout[02].WeaponType=AGM-114F

Loadout[02].Quantity=4

Loadout[02].RackType=M-299

Jezz! why didnt i rread this last night! On my Ah-1 it only appeared the AGM-114A model...so thats why he didnt fire...

 

So i have to include TLR/EOGR to have the radar guided versions right?

 

 

And one more question,if i may, is it just me or the quadruple TOW rack appears with no skin in it just a grey "stick" missile form???

Yep, that's an old version of the rack. In the readme, I stated:

 

"For multi-pack carry, if the TW engine finds a multi-rack that is listed eariler in the Weapondata.ini that can carry the missile, it will use that rack instead. You may have to fiddle with your loadout.ini files to get it to use the right rack."

 

Also, in the readme I detailed instructions on how to substitute using the nicer racks included in this weapons package instead of the old ones.

 

 

 

The dedicated TOW racks (the ones with the 'figure 8' tubes) still need to be replaced (along with the TOW missile). But that's for another time and another release.

Yep, exactly correct. You need to add one. Pretty easy to do, I had to do that myself. I just copied one from an aircraft that already had an internal laser designator.

Well....basicly ive tried to install the TRAM of the intruder in the AH-1 and no joy....neither with the Mig-27D....

What oter built in designator planes did you came up?

 

And still only have the A version of the hellfire....and the brimstone doesnt apear in the Tornado...

Thanks ravenclaw, that did it with the AGM-114A!!! :ok:

Still doensnt appear the L though...

As for the Brimstone it was a problem with service years....the Brimstone started in 1999 and the tornado ended in 1985 ( i dont know why though).

Just edited and voila....Brimstone in 1985!

Well....the L i cant explain since it doesnt appear to me as well, and the Brimstone is natural it doesnt appear because its a UK missile and youre flying a USN bird! :wink:

 

ANd also check the service dates with the weapons editor....worked with me.

Note the differences folks! Use the loadout.ini (and make sure you have the right YEAR) to get the missiles you want...but use the proper rack!

 

From the weapon release thread:

 

Brimstone - Brimstone 3-pack

AGM-114A - M-272, M-279, M-299

AGM-114F - M-272, M-279, M-299

AGM-114L - M-272L, M-299L

 

The reason the L model needs a different rack is that ATRs cannot carry EOGR weapons, so I had to make TLR versions of those racks. Don't mix them up when building your loadout files.

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed reply... here are the screenshots of the AH-1W carrying Hellfire missiles which are placed at odd angles... I armed the chopper with 16 hellfires (4 missles/ hardpoint) at the loadout screen and this is the result... (None of the missiles have been fired yet and only 8 out of 16 missiles appear loaded at odd angles.)

As I suspected.

 

Those are not the racks and missiles that I built. Did you confirm that my models are in your Objects/Weapons directory?

 

Did you follow the readme explicitly?

 

Did you add the weapons properly to the weaponsdata.ini as per the readme AND run the weapons editor as per the knowledge base?

 

Did you adjust your loadout.ini in your AH-1W directory as listed in this thread?

Hi again,

I've followed your suggestions and downloaded the Hellfire & Brimstone weapons pack that you created.. and i had adjusted the loadout.ini as stated in this thread... the AGM-114A & AGM-114F are loaded in their proper places on the aircraft's hardpoints but the AGM-114L appears to be loaded a bit disproportionately... In the following screenshots the A & F Hellfires are positioned A-OK but the 'L' Hellfire is positioned a bit disproportionate even after using the M-299L rack. All helicopters in the screenshots were loaded with 16 missiles (4 missiles per hardpoint)

 

But anyway, thanks a lot for solving my problems regarding the AGM-114A & F Hellfires..

Sorry to trouble you but could you please help me with the 'L' Hellfire ?

Is it using the same pylon as the others? And is the dimension data the same as the other Hellfires? The AH-1 isn't supposed to carry the AGM-114L anyway, that one is just for the Longbow Apache.

That last picture is Brimstone 3-pack rails...NOT M-299Ls. They are not meant to carry Hellfires. They shouldn't even be an option because they are RAF only.
