lazboy 1 Posted October 24, 2007 (edited) Iran has signed a deal with China to buy two squadrons of J-10 fighter planes that are based on Israeli technology, the Russian news agency Novosti reported Tuesday. The 24 aircraft are based on technology and components provided to China by Israel following the cancellation of the Lavi project in the mid-1980s. The engines of the J-10 are Russian-made. Representatives of the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company said China would deliver the total (24 jets) in 2008-2010. Experts, estimating one fighter at $40 million, put the contract's value at $1 billion. The estimated operational range of the aircraft, with external fuel tanks, is 3,000 kilometers, which means Israel falls within their radius of operation.Until now, Iran's longest-reach fighters have been Russian-made MiG-29s (Fulcrum), whose maximum range is 2,100 km. In the view of experts , Iran will most likely use J-10s to protect key facilities, such as the nuclear power plant at Bushehr.the very presence of J-10 jets could act as a deterrent, the fighters could theoretically scuttle any Israeli strike at facilities which Israel may believe are manufacturing weapons of mass destruction. Silverbolt 104 Posted October 24, 2007 (edited) sweet irony, if they want really protect they country with the best i think they have to buy some Flankers, they are doing the same mistake of iraq in 1991! Iraq buy some MiG-29s, but they real plans was to buye the Flanker, but they keep to buy it in 92! offcourse it doesent happen, but if they buy, the result should was the same, but the losses of coalition side should be more than one Hornet downed and 1 B-52G and F-111 Damaged Edited October 24, 2007 by Silverbolt
