      09/22/2020 - REBOOT 1600Z   09/22/2020

Our primary machine requires a reboot after almost 2 years of continuous service. top - 10:19:53 up 558 days, 18:52 The reboot will require approximately an hour to complete. Rebooting of our main OS will force an FSCK (File System Consistency Check) causing some downtime where our site will resolve to a "site unreachable" page. The reboot will begin today at 16:00 Zulu/UTC (approximately 30 minutes from now). Thank you for understanding that this is a necessary and required part of online equipment maintenance. Erik

What real improvements have been made in the function and playability of T.K.'s newest installment?

Well, a lot of them have been said in the offical WOI thread...but in part:

1. AI is more aggressive and skillful (friendly and advesary).

2. Shadows can now be enabled for ALL aircraft...no shadow file needed (can be a frame rate killer though).

3. Additional information can now be put in aircraft and weapon FMs, including post stall behaviors...the sim will assign 'generic' values for aircraft that do not have these additional parameters.

4. Ground radar has been fixed.

5. Airfields now are 'populated' with aircraft that can be targeted...there is evidence of a 'scramble' function when airfields get attacked.

You should read the official thread. Most of the changes people have found are mentioned in there.

Is it scramble or scripted take off? The plane is not always a fighter...

That's what guys aren't sure about. Some guys have been wondering if aircraft destroyed on the ground during a campaign were part of that airfield's 'stocks'. If so, that would mark a major addition to the campaign engine...affecting the airwar by destroying the A/C on the ground. Would make a 1967 six day war campaign that much more effective...though kind of boring gameplay-wise because most of the air to air action wouldn't exist.

Also, I consider a scramble not just for airfield defense, but for evac...trying to save as many assets as possible. So I could see heavys getting launched to try to get out of the area...

I think, just like real life, some bases don't have fighters assigned to them. They may only have transports or bombers, so there's no fighters to scramble.

Just going by how First Eagles does it you will find both fighters and bombers at airbases. The sim seems to choose static A/C from the aircraft folder and add-on planes are included in the "mix". That is assuming it works the same in WOI. As far as scramble vs. evasion its a great feature regardless.... :good:
