+EricJ 4,244 Posted March 1, 2008 It to me seems strange that the Indians are looking for something else in the first place. You figure once you get your hands on a Su-30MKI, nothing else compares, unless of course it's just an alternative, or the MKI is slightly more expensive to maintain? Or just not technically advanced?
JediMaster 451 Posted March 3, 2008 It's a big, heavy, expensive plane. You don't replace MiG-21s with Su-30s. They want something smaller and cheaper for that role. Of course, if it's not cheaper, it better be a lot more capable. The Su-30 is capable, but it's still not a "next gen" plane. The Typhoon, F-22, F-35, and Super Hornet are all more modern. The Gripen is probably on par.
