I'm going through the Golan Stalemate campaign and editing it for the aircraft/skins that I've got to change things up a bit from the defaults. I'd like to add the RF-4E to the campaign, (Nos 119 and 201 Sqdns) but the current aircraft are the Kurnass for each. Can I add an additional AirUnit for those squadrons with the RF-4E?

 

I've been through the KB and Bunyap's tutorial, but it didnt mention this at all.

Does it need to be an addition?

 

I usually replace the aircraft instead, as there is less messing around.

 

Just replace the designation "F-4E_Kurnass" with the EXACT name of the desired replacement, it should show up under the squadron name under the campaign menu.

 

At least that is what I've done to add variety and new aircraft to campaigns...

Thanks, but I did know about that. I was really wanting to give the unit the ability to perform both missions within the campaign, since they were a mixed-mission squadron.

Well, you can always tweak the percentages below to get more or less of certain types of missions.

 

At least, if that is what you are talking about.

 

I just do mild tweaks, I leave the sparkly stuff to the guys around here with big brains...

Add another airunit to the campaign_data.ini; use one of the existing units as a template and edit what you need.

 

In the campaign.ini add another unit:

 

[uSAFUnit001]

UnitName=10th TFS, 50th TFW <- does not have to correspond w/squadron in squadronlist.ini

ForceID=1 <- usually "good" is 1, "bad" is 2; outlined in campagin_data.ini

UnitID=3 <- remeber that this is within the force; it is counted from the top down, skipping any units (in this case in force 2)

StartDate=1960

DescFile=10thDesc.txt

StartText=Campaign1Start1.txt

AircraftType=F-100D

 

Also don't forget to edit the number of squadrons if you're adding them to a carrier.

Ok, since it seemed this was uncharted country, I went ahead and did it. I added two additional AirUnits, 1 each for 119 and 201 Squadrons and equipped them with the RF-4E, renumbering everything in the data.ini and the woicamp5.ini

 

Went into the game and for that campain, the units show up right after each other and reflect the different aircraft. But when I selected that campaign and it loaded up, the F-4E hangar screen came up. The game defaulted to the Kurnass, even though everything pointed to the RF in the second entry.

 

So I guess I've answered my question. Only one entry per unit, unless I renamed it in a minor way, ie

Let me think about it some more. I like flying Recce missions, but it would be nice to have some RF-4s running their own recce runs flown by the AI.

First, I wouldn't recommend re-numbering everything - that's a real easy way to screw something up. I would just add the new squadrons at the end. Second, the unit names shouldn't really matter. I've never tried two squadrons with the same name, but it might work.

 

Can you post the campaign data with your changes highlighted? I've messed around with this a lot lately, and might be able to help.

I was quite thorough and ensured everything was numbered correctly. I dont like to simply stick the new squadron entries at the end, as they will appear out of sequence.

 

Can you post the campaign data with your changes highlighted? I've messed around with this a lot lately, and might be able to help.

 

Deleted it after it didnt work.

 

I think the course I'll pursue next will be an separate squadron for these jets. No. 119 Sqn 'The Bats' Det1 for the Recces. This should get past the game's inability to have more than one squadron entry.

Another example would be in Vietnam. You had some FAC units (TASS) that flew the O-2 and OV-10 within the same squadron.

What I was getting at is that you don't need to add anything to the squadronlist.ini. Here is an entry from my modified WOE campaign:

 

[AirUnit096]

AircraftType=Tornado_GR

Squadron=617RAF

UnitName=No. 617 Squadron

ForceID=1

Nation=RAF

DefaultTexture=617

BaseArea=Brüggen Airbase

...

 

617RAF isn't in the squadron list.ini. If you add the 'UnitName=' line your squadron doesn't have to be one from squadronlist.ini, and the unit name will still show up in the beginning of the campaign. This way you can add whatever squadrons you want in the campaign_data.ini and just make the names whatever you want.

 

So if the original entry looks like this:

 

[AirUnit013]

AircraftType=F-4E_IDF

Squadron=119IDF

 

You could then add:

 

[AirUnit014]

AircraftType=RF-4E_IDF

Squadron=119IDF Rec

UnitName=119 IDF Recon Section (or something like that...)

 

You might even be able to leave the squadron for AirUnit14 as just "119IDF", I think. Then in campaign.ini...

Also, I have the 13 in bold above, because it was 12 in your post above. If that was the case when you tried it, that would explain why it didn't work. You can't have two unit 12's.

PS - and one last thing regarding inserting and renumbering vs adding to the end. You could add the squadron at the end in the campaign_data.ini, but then have it's corresponding entry in the campaign.ini file be in the correct location, as long as your unitID is pointing to the right thing. That would be only half as much renumbering, but maybe a little more confusing when trying to compare units between the two files...

Also, looking through the campaign_data.ini for the falklands mod, you don't even need a squadron defined.

However, you may end up without decals if you do that. Anyway, I've had mulitiple units with the same squadron before. It shouldn't matter.
