Beware the Strutters

Recommended Posts

I agree about letting the Stutters and F2b's pass on by  . I am flying four seperate campaigns (one for each nation) and these two Allied planes are giving my German pilot Leutnant Hugo Shriver real fits. He has barely landed 4 pretty shot up early Albatros DIII's for mixing it up with these two AC  . On the last mission I flew as Leutnant Shriver, I did manage to bring down a Stutter. But it wasn't because of my extraordinary piloting skills  The DIII's engine was hit and sputtering bad, I was just trying to make it to a friendly airfield before she gave up the ghost. For some reason the Stutter pilot who caused my woes came diving down (I think to finish me off) he overshot and ended up right in front of my spandaus, a long burst and his wing came off and he spun into a lake that was below :clapping: Finally I thought that I had redeemed myself to my Jasta and the Kaiser for the three (soon to be four) wrecked Albatros I brought back to base :good: . I made it to the friendly airbase (barely) and ended the mission and thought I was going to the claim page. To add insult to injury the claim page didn't come up, so no claim  . So next time I think I'll just gives these guys a wide berth  Yeah live and let live....for Leutnant Hugo Shrivers sake :good:

What you say? Strutters and Re8's a problem. You must be flying one of those crepe paper and bamboo AC! Bristols on the other hand......give pause before rushing into a brace of those chappies.

I'm still loving this plane.

Earlier today, I flew a couple of QCs, with three D.V.s against little old me in a F2B. The first time out, the D.V.s flew away and I actually had to chase them down. Maybe the AI has some common sense with the 1.3 patch. After a few minutes, they turned on me, with one going high and the other two coming straight on. As they closed in, I turned and banked to let the gunner have a go, because he's a better shot than I am. After a very tense 10 minute fight, I'd got one with the forward gun, the gunner got one, and the other one wet himself and flew into the ground as we chased after him.

The second time out (starting at 5,000 feet), the three of them came straight at us immediately, doing some damage before I could get us out of the way. In the end, I got one, the gunner got one, and the other was taken out by ground fire.

I also flew a couple of turns as the gunner. It was fun, but the AI pilot flew us into the ground in the first one, and the Albatrosses got us the second time, but not before I got really nauseous being flung all over the place. I think I'll either have to stick to the front seat or load up on motion sickness pills.

I found myself wondering if the F2B was really that agile, or if perhaps the flight model in OFF was unrealistic. From everything I've read, though, it really was that good.

As fair warning, in the event that I ever get brave enough to join you fellows in a multiplayer game, I'll be bringing my Biff. :good:

The Biff, after a disasterous start in Bloody April when it was initially flown in formation as a traditional 2 seater, soon earned its stripes when flown as a scout. With the massive RR up front it was fast, robust, well armed and agile for a 2 seat configuration. And of course the sting in the tail. Definitely one of the most outstanding aircraft of the war.
