firstly, is there any way to have a 'free-flight' mode in this game? i.e. no enemy

secondly can anyone give me a quick heads up on how to drop bombs with the older, gunsight-only, planes like the phantom, ie what kinda height, speed, distance and AoA should i be using to hit my target...i saw in a search that someone said 700ft at 700kts and pickle when the site is over the target but would this work in ole double ugly?

There are too many variables envolved to go with one set of numbers, I fly F-4's mostly and it took me a long time to be able to put bombs on target. What i did was to take the basic info presented in the knowledge base along with other pilots input and went to the bombing range and just practiced different things til i found what works for me. at first i was dropping in close in a steep dive, then over time i was able to use a 45 degree AoA and hit the bigger targets from 3000ft now im able to hit big targets from 4000 to 5000ft with no problem but in a mission or campaing the variables are different you have migs, sam's and ground fire to contend with.

also i use different methods depending on what the target is and if i'll be using cluster bombs, iron bombs or LGB's

But the key is have a basic understanding of the different methods and then do a LOT of practicing.

This noobie just learned something new,an add-on bomb range. Now this is logical and practical says Spock.Sorry couldn't resist.

There is no easy way. You have to practice. Pilots calculated that all in their heads before CCIP was around.

This has a couple of articles about bombing and how to do it http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_055a.html the first article is fairly easy to get your head around and it works pretty darn well :good: the second one is much more involved, but definately a good read. Basically the first article says 10000ft at 400kts until your 4miles away from target, aim reticle on the target in a dive until about 1mile from the target......and pickle!........pull up and watch in your mirrors how well you did :clapping:

As mentioned earlier.......'the Range' is a must have.

Like was said above, get the Range MOD and practice!

Also, learn the blast radius of different ordnance and experiment with things such as ripples and intervals and with range time you'll find out what height, speed and release point you'll need.

Also keep in mind the differences between aircraft. For example, i consider myself a damn fine dive bomber in a Thud, but mediocre in an F-4. The handling in the dive just doesn't feel as smooth . Not to mention the A-1, accurate bombing in that bird is is virtually an art form when you are converting from fast movers.

Before i forget, if in doubt don't hesitate to ask here.
