Damages

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally have two pilots that have lasted for more than 3 days apiece, so they are starting to get some claims.

I have noticed that all of the claims (about 20+) have either been engine smokers or an occasional engine fire, and only one OOC spinner in the bunch. Is anyone else seeing any other damages, such as wings breaking off, etc? I recall seeing that happen once before after patch 1.26 or 1.27, but never since.

Just wondering - guess I am getting a little blood-thirsty now. :minigun:

There has been much discussion about this in the past - do a search for damage modelling etc -

If you want to increase the damage as you describe, then look at my thread in the "3rd party and mods forum" , one of the other two forums for OFF here at CombatACE.

And make your own damage levels.

Hi Fortiesboy, and thank you for your reply.

I just looked at your Mar 24 post regarding changing damage values.

So, if I understand it correctly, you open the QC folder version of each AC in question (after creating a back-up file first), and choose which areas of the AC that you would like to see "weaker" (wings, etc.) Then, alter the values from 100 to something lower ( I noticed you mentioned 10 several times).

Then, after saving the changes, delete the ODB file for that AC.

Then, play and test it out.

Thanks again. :type:

Why do all that work? Just changer the gunnery settings in workshop towards easier.

And if you say, that's cheating - well, changing the damage model, is, too.

I have "Hardcore" installed, and guns set to normal, and I have shot planes literally to

pieces. One British two-seater broke up in mid air in my gunfire.

Wings come off in part or totally.

No need to change the damage model.

Another point: if you have the look of the planes on "Highest resolution", you don't see

damage. Change that one lower, and you'll have more fun!

Edit: In Hardcore, planes are harder to destroy; so you may want to overwrite it with normal.

But even in Hardcore, I see lots of terrible damage.

Last idea: fly two gun planes - come to se Dshermans - vee hav se killer planez, mein Herr!

Olham S!

I appreciate what you are saying, but it is apparent i think now that some folks' computers /setups/installs /whatever do NOT give the damage that others, like yourself, experience.

I have made a number of installs from 1.26 through to 1.30, and several fresh re -installs at that, in order to experience this damage that others say they get- and it hasn't happened.

Let's be clear about what is I mean by damage here. If I fly the installs as they come I get the enemy planes going down out of control and crashing readily enough, with debris ( little pieces ) coming off- but they always go down INTACT. I did not see any explosion or any major item like a wing coming off.

J have seen what you have written about settings giving different damage. Believe me, I know all about those and i have tried them all. Makes no difference.

Polovski ( with a smile ) suggested I wasn't hitting the planes -lol I even checked that out by using the messages - those horrible blue lines that come up recording your hits. I 've had columns of those heading down the screen, so I know I'm accurate enough. ( I've come at them from all sorts of angles !)

So, my conclusion is that some of us get the damage and some don't.

From the time this sim came out, it was always a contention by many that the damage did not come soon enough, right from phase 1.

Some said that if it did it would be Arcade and unrealistic; but when we had situations where you could pump all your magazine into the enemy and he still flew on, as some , may i suggest, most , found, and yet three hits from the enemy crippled you, it was good news when this "realistic " state of affairs was addressed by the devs.

It was early in phase 2 that I learned how to "tweak" the XDP files to modify the damage, and, as i say, I still prefer to do so, to have the sim as I want it. I can readily go back to "vanilla" if i need to, but as yet, i haven't ventured to MP.

There is no doubt that now this sim is the most realistic and best sim I have ever flown, especially after this latest patch.

I still fly the others, now and then, but when I want the best sim experience, I come back to OFF

- almost each and every day.

One last thought about the damage modelling in the vanilla install. - having shot the enemy and see him start to spiral down, obviously doomed and unable to fly, I leave him to his fate. Maybe if i pumped Lord knows how many more bullets into him i might get the damage, i don't know- but that to me is not realistic. I save my ammo for the next bugger who might just be about to jump me

cheers

Sorry, didn't know about this. Now I understand, why you tweak damage. I wouldn't miss it, too.
