Just returned with my flight of 4 camels after a long escort of 3 recon craft over the front lines near Menen. I landed and as my engine shut down i saw my 3 wingmates making a wide pass (as they always do) for the airfield. I quit the mission and Oscar Anderson (one of the 3 in the formation) is reported MIA. Do i need to wait for them to land or is this just randomly generated to simulate squadron attrition?

No, you don't need to wait for them. But if you like to do that once: fly to last waypoint (near your drome), and then flollow

them. The do a wide turn away, and just as you think, they won't go home, they turn round and approach the field.

And when you're lucky, they perform a good landing!

When this guy was missing, he might have been badly damaged, and didn't make it to the field.

However it's a lot easier on the poor bloke writing the Letter to his Mum

That he's MIA, rather than the Putz crashed upon landing, killed himself

That feud with you and that "putz" Oscar Anderson just keeps going on and on......

Once I sat on the on the field just to see if they *did* finally come back for a landing, and guess what? One of them *did* crash on and kill himself. ...maybe it was Osar.

Yes. The attrition of squadmates is random...has no connection to what actually happens in your mission.

Do they really ever land? I landed once and sat there on the field and watched my yo-yo wingmen circle the field about 5 times in a very wide circle. Never once did one of them even look close to trying to land.

Unfortunately, I was tired and went on to bed......(maybe that's why I never get any confirmations?)

Aroth, they do (try to) land, when you fly to the last waypoint. From there, they perform a wide turn

away from the field, and return and land, which is sort of luck, when they make it - often the later

ones crash into the previous, because they "don't see" each other at zero level.

But try it - I had landings, that were without losses!

same drill as CFS3...........sounds nuts but it works....continue past the field 7 mi, turn and come back, when you return over the field your crew will be landing....still don't know if it's the 7 mi. distance that triggers the AI landing or the time it takes to go the 14 roundtrip.......whatever, at least you can see 'em all home if you like
