Mr. Lucky 0 Posted May 25, 2009 I guess it's up to me to announce it. GoGamer is taking preorders for Rise-of-Flight which it says is due out June 8th. Coincidentally....it's selling there for $39.90. Also, BTW, it says in bold letters...Internet Connection Required if there were still any doubts about that one. Will have to try it and see what it's about.
Cameljockey 3 Posted May 25, 2009 Unfortunately I have decided to give it a pass. As beautiful as it looks and as advanced as the game engine is, the connection requirement and the auto update are what spoiled it for me. They (neoQb) decide what patches or updates your game needs and installs them automatically. I don't even let Bill Gates get away with that. As always, just my opinion. SirMike1983 3 Posted May 25, 2009 (edited) Auto update has become a mainstay on bigger platforms like the Steam platform. Though Steam is also a bit customizable too. I'll look into RoF more-- it looks good, but from what I'd seen the flight models were pretty weird in the test version. Maybe they got that straightened out though. Hauksbee 103 Posted May 25, 2009 Also, BTW, it says in bold letters...Internet Connection Required.... Required? Are you saying it must be played over the Internet? That would seriously suck.
Cameljockey 3 Posted May 25, 2009 (edited) That's a fact. Well, sort of. You don't have to play over the internet, but you have to connect to their servers to play SP. If their server goes down you can't play until it comes back up. Or if, God forbid, they go out of business, you can toss the game in the nearest trash bin. See this interview at WWI Air Combat. http://wwiaircombat.com/articles/rise-of-f...-demo-confirmed CJ Edited May 25, 2009 by Cameljockey
Hauksbee 103 Posted May 25, 2009 Well, so much for "The Demise of Flight".
steve58 0 Posted May 25, 2009 Well this can only help sales of BHaH. Just a little browsing on the internet and I can already see a lot of potential buyers backing away from RoF in a hurry. Connect to the internet each and every time they want to fire up RoF even in single player mode? If they were holding out for RoF, where else can they turn now but to BhaH? godzilla1985 0 Posted May 25, 2009 Don't really know if it would help BHaH sales much as the whole internet connection for SP has been known about for sometime. Sure you might some guys trickle this way because of this, but no mass exodus or it would have already happened. Now a mass exodus could still happen if the whole server goes to smash once it's major western release happens. I honestly think this is why the game seems to have been spread out in it's release, first the CIS, next North America and then Europe. They are saying it's because of finding distributors (777 Studios picked up N.America) but before this they were going with digital DL's for everyone else after CIS release. Coincidence? maybe time will tell.
TSmoke 2 Posted May 26, 2009 I think that they had such a stink put up on their blog and forums from North America and parts of Europe for having it purchased by download only that they finally listened. Probably wishful thinking on my part but a hell of a lot better marketing stategy by having a hard disk to purchase that a craptastic download. Money makes the world spin and I think that they finally clued into the potential numbers of dollars that they could of missed out on. Still won't get my money due to the internet for SP thing, just my 2 cents.
