Get a hex editor here!

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that here and there people mention opening LOD files with notepad. This may work, but it isn't ideal. The best thing is to get a hex editor, which will also enable you to make modifications to the bmp filenames, etc, which the LOD refers to (except for SF2 aircraft. Cockpit LODs can be hacked, however.)

The best I've found is xvi32, which can be found here:

http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/free...xvi32/xvi32.htm

It is free, easy and works very, very well.

If anyone knows how to locate bmp references in SF2 aircraft LODs, I'd be grateful to learn!

A general rule of thumb is that all the texture references are usually at the bottom, or near the end of the string of digits, as Fubar512s shot shows. It should be noted that you should always back up stuff like that. reasoning that everythings arranged in a certain order, so make sure that the file name lines up with the above one. I did that in LOMAC and learned by trial by error.

It is a good program.

Because in a nutshell is a binary primary decomposers.

open absolutely all file formats known in the computer world.

and shows the underwear of encrypted files.

From Wikipedia

A hex editor (or binary file editor or byte editor) is a type of computer program that allows a user to manipulate binary (normally non-plain text) computer files. Hex editors that were designed to edit sector, or parse, data from floppy or hard disks were sometimes called sector editors or disk editors.
