deiwi Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Hello everyone, I've just downloaded beautiful generic F-4 skins by Sundowner but I don't know how to install it on SF2 (on Win Vista). There's a readme and it says "Just drop into the F-4B and the F-4D and go fly!" which is nice but doesn't work. I've read tons of how-tos and nothing works fine. There's nothing to overwrite, nothing similar to files in Sundowner's skins. Please help me somebody. Quote

Each folder is set up with VF-something or other. Just put the files of one of those folders in and let it overwrite. Quote

Example: F-4D folder contains just F-4D.INI and Desert1 folder TextureSet.ini That's all, nothing more's here. Quote
pablo10692 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) In the aircraft.ini, you need to add the TextureSet from the Skin at the bottom of it. Open the F-4D.ini and you'll see this: [TextureSet001] Directory=Desert1 Name=USAF Desert Camo 1 Nation=USAF Squadron=436TFS Specular=0.400000 Glossiness=0.400000 Reflection=0.000000 Or something like this. Then you copy the TextureSet that comes inside the Skin TextureSet.ini put under the other one don't forget to put the directory for the Skin and follow the numbers order. I hope you can understand. MigBuster Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Yeah thats right - the other files are hidden away - put the skins in the F-4 folder so you end up with: Desert1 F-4D.ini VFxxx VFxxx Can you not select the skin in the loadout screen? make sure the skins files are not in another subfolder Quote

Thank you pablito, I've tried out your solution: F-4D_67.INI (in F-4D_67 folder) [AircraftData] AircraftFullName=F-4D Phantom II (67) AircraftShortName=F-4 AircraftDataFile=F-4D_67_data.ini LoadoutFile=F-4D_67_loadout.ini CockpitDataFile=F-4D_67_cockpit.ini LoadoutImage=F-4D_loadout.tga UserList=F-4D_67_UserList.ini HangarScreen=F-4D_67_hangar.bmp LoadingScreen=F-4D_Loading.bmp AvionicsDLL=Avionics60.dll AvionicsDataFilename=F-4D_67_avionics.ini [LOD001] Filename=F-4D_67.lod Distance=100 [LOD002] Filename=F-4D_67_lod2.lod Distance=250 [LOD003] Filename=F-4D_67_lod3.lod Distance=500 [LOD004] Filename=F-4D_lod4.lod Distance=1000 [LOD005] Filename=F-4D_lod5.lod Distance=10000 [shadow] CastShadow=TRUE ShadowCastDist=10000 MaxVisibleDistance=800 [DamageTexture] DamagedPostFix=_holes.tga [TextureSet001] Directory=Desert1 Name=USAF Desert Camo 1 Nation=USAF Squadron=436TFS Specular=0.400000 Glossiness=0.400000 Reflection=0.000000 [TextureSet002] Directory=USAFCamo1 Name=USAF Desert Camo 2 Nation=USAF Squadron=436TFS Specular=0.400000 Glossiness=0.400000 Reflection=0.000000 TextureSet.ini (inside USAFCamo1 subfolder with 5 bmp skin files) [TextureSet] Name=USAF Desert Camo 2 Nation=USAF Squadron=436TFS Specular=0.400000 Glossiness=0.400000 Reflection=0.000000 Result is nice white Phantom without textures. Maybe it need change filename (LOD001-005) to bmp and add it into TextureSet.ini? I'm pretty sure i'm pain in your ass with my silly question but I appreciate your good will. Quote
MigBuster Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 dont change any LOD names The skin names for the F-4D 67 need to be are: F-4D_67_1.bmp fuse F-4D_67_2.bmp wing F-4D_67_3.bmp wing F-4D_67_4.bmp tail F-4D_67_5.bmp pit and bits Quote

Make you do as Migbuster says if you want to use them for the other versions. Quote

I've copied and rename (F-4D_x.bmp > F-4D_67_x.bmp) files into F-4D_67 folder. I can choose USAF Desert Camo 2 in Roster menu resulting in textureless Phantom. Quote

MigBuster Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) No workaround needed because they work - you either have them in the wrong place - or you have the wrong path specified in the decals.ini file for the skin - Look at section 2 here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=44026 Edited July 13, 2009 by MigBuster Quote

Here is what i got (no Decals folder): Quote
deiwi Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Make a decals folder. LOL, I didn't see it before in how-to by MigBuster. Many thanks Skipper! Quote
