Dear Acme Wire company

Recommended Posts

My name is Archibald B. Wellington, and I fly for the 28 RAF squadron. Perhaps you've heard of me? I wanted to write to you and let you know what a superb quality product you produce. You see, one of your wires, saved my life today.

Let me explain:

We left Droglandt at 09h42 to patrol behind our lines. At zulu time 10:06 we came across Jasta 27 Flying Alb D.Vs. This occured about 4 miles East of LaGorgue. They had position on us and dove, I noticed one pilot didn’t dive, but was circling behind me to dive on me. So I climbed to meet him and we began to fire at each other. He dove past and then climbed, I went vertical and stayed with him, firing as I went. He slipped his wing and I did the same, but he turned a bit harder than me, and so we circled and dove and kept this up for a while. At one point I dove on him, he pulled up, and I clipped his wing, shattering my right wing, both top and bottom just at the strut. The strut disappeared, but the wire held! I gave hard rudder and poured everything I had into his plane and he crashed. My wing was held on by 1 wire! I immediately looked for a landing place, and decided on a large front yard of a very nice chateau. I landed with extreme rudder…pulling right up to the house! The French family was overjoyed at meeting such a handsome pilot (I’m sure an ugly one might have gotten a nice reception at least, as they were quite nice, however being as handsome as I am, their greeting was extravagant.) As they served me cheese and a cold frothy beverage, Dan Vandberg flew overhead, signaling the all clear for me. And so as I write this letter to you and have some more cheese, I'd just like to thank you for an excellent product! Keep up the good work!

I've enclosed some pictures of my plane and your amazing wire:

(the pictures dont do it justice...clicking on them--especially the 2nd one--shows the 1 wire very clearly!

Yes, one must say that for British engineering:

their creations may not always be of an obvious beauty,

and the colouring they give them, may sometimes be understatement (to say the least),

but they can certainly fix their parts together - glue or wire - it will last a while. :pilotfly:

A wonderful story! :clapping: Use something like that in your claims form and I'll bet you'll get confirmations with ease.

Thanks! Yeah I was having some fun with that one. Actually much of that was from my log entry. Adding the extra flare to the entries is fun.

and I really AM amazed that wing held together! Unreal!
