Helmut_AUT Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Just wondering... the aircraft is flyable, but all the squadrons in the '79 campaigns either use Thunderbolt or Eagle. Looks like a nice enough ride, shouldn't it be there? Quote
+hgbn Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Some of the aircrafts in SF2E isnt included in any campaign. I dont know if TK forgot to put them in campaign or if they are only meant for random generated single missions Quote
Helmut_AUT Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Shame, it would be nice to have one or two TFS (there are maaaaany in the 79 campaign anyway) switched from Thunderbolts to A-7. I can't find the campaign files anywhere, and don't want to extract all the dats right now. Besides I'd likely screw up the edit. Quote
Thog10 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 The Campaign files are in your in the MissionData cat's in the Flight folder of your Thirdwire directory. Good luck! Quote
+Gr.Viper Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Among other stuff, I think, I did report to TK that there are no A-7 squdrons im campagins. I hope he fixes with Israel release/update and a standalone patch later on. Could be fun to see A-7 vs SA-8 Quote
Helmut_AUT Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Thanks for reporting it to TK and pointing out the right cat file, I might try to change this, but have never edited Third Wire stuff before. I guess CAMPAIGN.INI descripes the squadrons with their bases and starting aircraft, and CAMPAIGN_DATA.INI has more concrete info on the squadrons including a possible aircraft upgrade. Seems doable to swap a Corsair II in there instead of an A-10 Unit. EDIT: Okay, I swapped the 509th TFS Pirates Aircraft in both Campaign2.inis (which is the 79 Red Lightning Campaign) for an A-7D_75 with an upgrade for an A-7D_78 later. They had A-10 before, so it seemed to fit, even if it might not be historical. I put the CAMPAIGNE2_DATA.INI into my UserFiles/Thirdwire/Flight Folder (which I created first), and in a subfolder CAMPAIGNS there I put the CAMPAIGNE2.INI This mirrors the structure of the unpacked MissionData003.cat file. But it doesn't work. The game still loads the pirates with the A-10. I think I haven't fully understood how the new folder structure is supposed to be used? And if you fail and want the stock campaigns back simply delete the INI's you extracted. Quote
Helmut_AUT Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 hgbn, please see my edit above: Swapping the AC was no problem, but where do I put the two extracted inis? Since MissionData003.cat has CAMPAIGNS2_DATA.INI and CAMPAIGNS/CAMPAIGNE2.ini and sits itself in the FLIGHT folder, I put these extracted and edited files in my User Documents/Thirdwire/Flight Folder. Doesn't work. Quote
jomni Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Or you can rename your campaign so that they can co-exist with stock. campaign.ini shows the palyable squadrons. campaign_data.ini shows all the details of the units. Create a "Campaigns" directory. Please check the knowledge base section of the forums. All the info is there. Edited July 23, 2009 by jomni Quote

Helmut_AUT Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Sorry, I'm not getting it to work. Jomni, I looked into the KB, but it mostly relates to SF1 style of folders and files. The SF2 KB is pretty slim still and didn't give me any pointers. --okay, I got it: Thirdwire SF2E Folder in my Documents/Campaigns/CAMPAIGNE2/ So I had to create a Campaigns directory and then a correctly named subdirectory for C2. Thanks for all help. Edited July 23, 2009 by Helmut_AUT Quote
+ST0RM Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 To help you a bit if you care about accuracy. (I know, it's a fictional campaign anyhow) The units still flying the A-7D were mostly ANG. But one Active-Duty hung around until '81. The 23rd TFW (Flying Tigers) out of England AFB, La. It's actually represented with tail codes in the defaults decals. Here are the Guard units: 114th TFG, SD ANG started in 1977 121st TFW, Oh ANG started in 1978 127th TFW, Mich ANG started in 1978 132nd TFW, Ia ANG started in 1977 185th TFG, Ia ANG started in 1976 140th TFG, Co ANG started in 1974 156th TFW, PR ANG started in 1976 162nd TFG, Az ANG started in 1978 169th TFG, SC ANG started in 1975 As a stretch, you could also use the 355th TFW, Davis-Monthan AFB. They tranferred their aircraft to the ANG in 1979. Good luck. Quote
Helmut_AUT Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the pointers. I don't want to add new units to a campaign, or rewrite decals, and both the 23rd TFW as well as the ANGs listed would have to be added as far as I can make out. I think the 357th TFS "Licking Dragons" as part of the 355th TFW will suit the idea, starting with '75 Corsairs and then going directly to '78 Thunderbolts as an upgrade in the campaign. They seem to have been a training unit since the '70, but as they are flying combat in the fictional default campaign, we're not gonna get any closer to realism anyway. I quite like the idea of switching from the Corsair to the Thunderbolt mid-campaign. It could symbolize a speed-up of an already "in progress" transition to the new airframe caused by the war. Edit: Here are the files if someone wants to save the work. Campaigne2.zip Edited July 23, 2009 by Helmut_AUT Quote

Dude you are missing out on one of the best parts of the sim. i.e. modding a campaign, getting mods and other 3rd party stuff and making it your own. It isn't brain surgery to add these things when we set up and extensive Knowledge Base that gives you the A through Z's on it. Quote
