AROTH 0 Posted August 15, 2009 I am not sure if this has been mentioned before, so don't blacklist me if it has. Not a complaint, just an observation. I fly mainly in QC modes, so it may only be a QC thing. I have noticed that the enemy AI aircraft never seem to "break off" from a furball fight if they are getting their behinds whomped. If a flight of 6 enemy approaches, and my flight attacks (or visa-versa), the fight continues until all of them are harshly dealt with. I suppose if my flight was getting bumped off one at a time, I might collect the remaining members and head for home to avoid a slaughter. Is it just my imagination? Hellshade 110 Posted August 15, 2009 It has been noted. The challenge is that breaking off and running away opens them (enemy AI) up to more fire that they are not really attempting to evade. Thus they end up getting shot down even faster. Some do indeed lumber off struggling for altitude as black smoke trails behind them. Generally speaking, all that does is delay their death a little until after you have taken care of their friends, presuming you can do so. The exception, as far as I can tell, are two seaters who generally push on ahead towards their taregts or home, just as they did in the war, regardless of how many of their friends drop out of the sky. War is hell, but there is still a job to do and killing the other guys is the AIs job. Hellshade
Duce Lewis 3 Posted August 15, 2009 Single aircraft break off and leave all the time after they've been damaged But it's WWI, no radios, so a group disengage wound't be too realistic anyways I have seen AI flights turn and run when outnumbered though
buddye 1 Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) Single A/C and Squads disengaged in WWI (damage, ammo, fuel, out numbered, number in the squad killed, etc.). The leader was the one who was responsible to signal a disengage so the Squad had to keep an eye on the leader. Leaders did not want their Squads losses to be excessive. It must have been difficult to get the Squad to "all" RTB, however. My opinion for QC Mode is that players want a good fight and not a disengage but for the campaign the disengege seems more historicly accurate. I'm sure that's the theory but the application would be extremely difficult The fact that they're getting their butts whipped means they're probably outnumbered and more guns are pointed at you than them If there's an HA on your tail, top priority is to out manuever him before any thoughts of running away Leader may drop a flare etc. but each man has to pick his time and opportunity And the HA has other thoughts, winning is infectious, they'll probably just follow on behind And if you're in a rotary vs speedy inlines, the fight ends more often when they say it ends
