RAF_Louvert 101 Posted August 16, 2009 GASP! Yes...yes, it's true. I decided it was high time I found out what it was like on the east side of the mud, so I signed on as Fredrick Krieg with FFA23 in September of 1915. We are currently flying the EIII's out of Vaux-en-Vermandois in Flanders. I have to say that so far it has been VERY busy in our AO, so much so that in just four missions I have already filed seven claims for kills; one Bristol Scout and six BE2c's, (none confirmed yet though). Talk about cold meat, those poor RFC blighters flying the B/R buses truly are "Fokker Fodder". Even the Bristol is not much of a match for the Einie as long as you keep your wits about you and use the EIII's meager ability to zoom. Here are a few screen shots of my latest mission. Lifting off from the field with my wingman, Erich Eisenberg. Slowly climbing as we head towards the front. We soon encounter four Bristol Scouts who dive to engage us; the idiots gave up their alt. I pick out my partner and begin the waltz. I soon discover that he must be a novice, and feel a bit sad that he will not survive long enough to improve his skills. I no sooner put a solid burst into my prey when his wingman nearly collides with me as he attempts a zoom. I chase him all the way to the mud, but am unable to get a kill shot on him before he flys himself into Mother Earth. I thread my way through the AA barrage as my flight turns back towards home. After returning to camp I was required to drink more than a few pints of fine German bier to celebrate our successful sojourn. Despite the quality of the ale and the company it still felt none-the-less odd toasting the Kaiser and the Fatherland, though I imagine given enough time and drink I could get use to it. Cheers...er...um...I mean, Prost! Lou
Fliegenhund 0 Posted August 16, 2009 Nice report. I had my best pilot career flying the EIII and only died because of a freak collision with a wingman. Once the bitterness is gone I shall return!
Olham 164 Posted August 16, 2009 Wow, Lou - impressive flying with the Eindecker! You show, it can turn fight! And whenever this campaign should be ended, don't stop there. The Albatros DII, when it was new, was a very good fighter with a lot of firepower to fold the Nupes. Then the DIII, when it was new, was a very good mix of energy and turn tactics; great fun to fly! And after a while, you will find, that we don't only eat Bratwurst with Sauerkraut. You may get roasted duck with Rotkohl and Knödel, or Rouladen with Erbsen and Möhren and Kartoffelpürree, or a well done Goulasch - and when you don't like beer too much, we also have excellent wines. But I know the feeling. I fly two British campaigns, but only occasionally, and it still feels foraign somehow. Must be in the mind; hope it wears off. I wish you much success and great fun! RAF_Louvert 101 Posted August 16, 2009 Thanks Olham and Fliegenhund, we shall see how long I can survive in this kite. And roast duck with red cabbage and dumplings! Ummmmmmmm. That and the bier may just give me cause to stay a while longer. BTW, I posted a few screenshots of my mission this morning. Another turkey shoot I'm afraid. Prost! Olham 164 Posted August 16, 2009 Enjoy turkey shooting, until the 'Bebes' arrive! Then it WILL get tough.
Hasse Wind 46 Posted August 16, 2009 Ah, another convert to the Kaiser's side of the front. Willkommen! I've shot down so many Eindeckers so easily in so many Nupe careers that I don't have much respect for that monoplane, but in the right hands the Einie seems to be quite the killer. Let's hope we'll get some early crates for the Einies to shoot down in the add-ons so that we can have a real Fokker Scourge some day. Oh, and you'd better start learning to like turnips, because they are going to be a major part in your menu if you survive long enough in His Imperial Majesty's service. Guest British_eh Posted August 16, 2009 Hi there RAF: When putting together a mission using Olhams Jasta and plane, I got to lfy the ALB DII for the first time in P3. It is quite a steady platform, with the twin Spandu's to make life tough for the allies. Cheers, British_eh
