Olham 164 Posted August 20, 2009 I had another post war craft model with yellow wings, an American trainer, but can't remember the name. Could have been the plane at the left; it had rounded wingtips.
OvS 8 Posted August 20, 2009 A CONSOLIDATED PT 6 A little off track but nice PT? Primary Trainer? Sounds right. Nice pic! Thanks for that. OvS
Hauksbee 103 Posted August 20, 2009 I had another post war craft model with yellow wings, an American trainer, but can'tremember the name. Could have been the plane at the left; it had rounded wingtips. Probably a Stearman biplane. Also called PT-17, or, the Great Lakes trainer. Looks much like the PT-6 shown. Olham 164 Posted August 20, 2009 Could also mean "Pilot Trainer"? Perhaps?
Hauksbee 103 Posted August 20, 2009 (edited) Could also mean "Pilot Trainer"? Perhaps? No. The designation 'PT' was for Primary Trainer. This was the plane you soloed in. Then off to the Advanced Trainer, the North American AT-6. Edited August 20, 2009 by Hauksbee
Olham 164 Posted August 20, 2009 Thanks, Hauksbee. What's the left plane's name?
Hauksbee 103 Posted August 20, 2009 Thanks, Hauksbee. What's the left plane's name? That's the Stearman, or PT-17, or Great Lakes Trainer. The latter name from the Great Lakes Naval Air Station where, (I think I'm right about this) the plane was first deployed prior to WWII. (...also, I married the grand-neice of the designer)
