Target Posted December 13, 2002 Posted December 13, 2002 Does anyone know which it is that this game works with? I've looked around in the file system, but its better I leave this land of Greece to those who know the language. In other words, don't flame me if you think its in front of my nose. Because it aint to me. :? Quote
Dark_Knight_667th Posted December 13, 2002 Posted December 13, 2002 Direct X..the open GL support for SF is very limited..and only supports it in 600x400 res or something like that DK Quote
*Fast Eagle* Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 I've found open GL to be a pain in the ass most of the time, for all games Quote
JerseyD Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 I disagree. Open GL is normally alot more stable and consumes alot less system resorces tha Direct X. Look at IL-2 for instance 99% of us run IL-2 in Open GL and it runs beautifully.Same goes for any game based on the Quake 3 engine or Unreal Tornament engine.Same goes for Half Life. All these games allow you to choose Open GL or Direct X and seasoned gamers always know to set it to Open GL whenever they can. They all work best in Open GL. Im not a programmer so I cant explain the facts behind it.All I can say is that I play alot of graphicly intense games and they all work best in Open GL I hope Third Wire plans to fix the Open GL support as Im sure it would give us all anywhere from 10-30 more Frames per second. *Fast Eagle* Posted December 21, 2002 Posted December 21, 2002 The only game that I play that uses open Gl is SoF2 I don't know about IL-2 because I wont buy another lame WWII sim, as for the resource issue, you may be correct, but where you gain resources you gotta pay the hefty price for top of the line video card, so a trade off is mostly acceptable to me. Oh and the resources taken up by sof2 are way more than that of this game or DI's F/A-18E Super Hornet, And DI's game has way more detail than any Quake engine based lame...I mean game, and this sim put together Quote
JerseyD Posted December 22, 2002 Posted December 22, 2002 Yes but dont forget there's way more going on in a game like SOF2 Explosions, muzzle flashes.dismemberments, blood sound effects etc... just flying a plane and shooting an ocasional missle or MG burst doesnt require the amont of procceccsing that all those zupped up high tech eyecandy-filled graphics you see in SOF2 wich again is another example of developers seeing that the Q3 engine is still great and is most importantly OPEN GL Imagine how choppy SOF2 would be if they tried to run in DX in a server with 32 people Quote
+DanW Posted December 22, 2002 Posted December 22, 2002 There is no OpenGL support for Stirke Fighters. It uses Direct3D. Dan Quote
Target Posted December 23, 2002 Author Posted December 23, 2002 I tried to address the stuttering issue in IL2 by trying to run it in Direct X and my video card (or something) wouldn't play nice with IL2 in Direct X mode. Everything was fractured beyond recognition in Direct X mode. Tweeking notwithstanding, Open GL was my only option in IL2, so I guess, then, I didn't really have an option. Sort of on the same lines as, "We're looking for a volunteer. YOU, you'll do." :D Quote
