The Strutters Ball!

Recommended Posts

From the book "Sopwith Aircraft" by Mick Davis (part of the Crowood Aviation series) that I have been reading, the 9700 actually had an internal bomb bay. The bomb bay was loacated where the gunner is loacated in the 9400, so this is why sinbad needs to remove the gunner and cover up his gun pit for the 9400 to become the 9700 or as the French called it 1B1.

As for removing the other categories, yes, they really should be removed from the 9400.

It's nice to see such close attention. All this is correct. The 9400 really should not be assigned bombing missions. Recon, Armed Recon, Transport, CAS are AOK. The Strutter was in some ways a for runner of the Brisfit. Recall that Hornblower-Cock got 13 kills flying only Strutters. Performance may be weaker than the 1918 aircraft, but when introduced it was a serious threat to hostile AC. Some were field modified a la the 1B2 but I can find no good data accurately describing that. I have seen at least one photo of the Belgians doing a mod.

The B2 had both the internal bomb bay and the gunner. They will be released next.

I need more help to get the 1B1/9700 series, with max bomb load and no gunner out the door.

The 9700 / B2 versions have the internal bomb bay modeled, and bomb fuse access panels. Alas no operating bomb doors, at least not yet! They were opened by weight of the bombs and closed with shock cord. Simple but it worked.

I considered removing the bomb mission categories for the 9400, and actually made the change in one draft, but not in the final version.

I'll revise the file.

Meanwhile I am posting the 512 standard res skins.

Hello Sinbad,

The Observer/Gunner in the 9400 is just about the most realistic animation I ever recall in a First Eagles Mod. Absolutely Outstanding!!! I wish we could retro-fit him to all our two-seaters.

Now, I'm just waiting impatiently for the French skins. :bye:

The Strutter team has been toiling night and day. :heat:

The Ball will resume this weekend.

Thanks to Panama Red we have a much better FM, and external stores. I went to hardware store and dredged up a set of bomb racks for the 9400 / 1A2 versions. The armed recon crews will now be able make Hunland a bit warmer.

We also hitched up our little bomb carts while cruising the TK armory. There will be a wide range of authentic loadouts to make breaking things on the ground easier.

If anyone can find the 65 lb bomb used by the RNAS, please send me photos, files, drawings . . . Meanwhle we'll use the Royal Labs 50's and the 90mm Michelins.

Given feedback so far, there appears to be no need for 512 x 512 skins, so I'll release the 1A2 and the remaining 9400 series in 2048. These can be resized down if need be.

Some of these toys are not quite ready to upload yet, HE must be handled with care . . .

Thing of beauty. This plane was so important to the French reconnaissance squadrons. What a great model and skins.

Thanks for the kind words.

Remember the Strutter is a team effort.

Sorry for the delay. We are testing. The AI bombing needs to be tweaked a bit.

Meanwhile -

Hi, Sinbad. Just wondering if there was anything new on the release of these. These are beautiful models and skins, and I'm sure the community would love to have them (I know I would) despite the fact that bombing is broken in FE, because it's based on the bombing model from the modern era. We don't have Artillery Observation missions either, and these were the most common missions flown by two seaters during the war, but that's just FE as it is now. I know I, for one, would love to have these superb models and skins in my game now, even if TK never really fixes the bombing, because they are just too good to be missed, no matter how lame bombing is in FE. Not trying to be a pain, just stating my honest feelings. I know the sim is flawed in this regard, but these models are anything but flawed, and are still an awesome addition, despite being flown by idiots. I hope you still have plans to release them soon. I make these statements with the highest regard for you and your team, and because I hold your work in such high regard. I hope you understand that.
