So its january of 1917 and I've been flying for a couple of weeks now in gross weather and I'm starting to get bored up here. Where did everyone go? I had a scramble misson the other day that I flew entirely on warp! Not a single enemy craft in sight (on a scramble?) seems strange to me. Is it the weather that keeps them all down? Whats weirder still is that my squadron mates keep getting kills/claims but I havent seen an enemy craft in weeks!? What gives? dntknw.gif

They're all licking their wounds from the Verdun counteroffensive and the Somme, and also too smart to fly in crappy winter weather. So you're basically out to dry until about April, when the next round of Flanders offensives kick off.

I found plenty of action with Jasta 1 at Proville in January 1917, and lost a good pilot as well as several not-so good/lucky pilots. I found a lot of enemy at higher altitude- 10-12k feet or higher- and mostly recce- so I decided to quit using warp altogether as it kept putting me 3000-4000 feet lower than the enemy when I did see them (so in the end Im unsure how much 'sim time' I had actually saved using the warp feature because by the time I spotted the enemy, climbed a bit higher than them, and manuevered my flight into a decent attack position I'm pretty sure some of that gaming time could have been saved had I ascended to ~11500 ft. after taking off) I ended up using Tac (which is why my DiD pilots are all designated DiDT) because it was frustratingly realistic losing the beggars in the gargantuan winter cloud/storms and I was having a bout of Stachelitis yikes.gif and spending more time looking for cloud openings. Tons of fun in retrospect (and I look forward to doing that all over again!).

So your saying now would be a good time to take a months leave? grin.gif

No, I think, he's rather saying, you should take a leave in April, before you experience,

why it was later called "Bloody April".

Ryan, there should be more action around Bertincourt with Jasta 2. Strange.

Baldric, check in "Workshop", what your general altitude is set to; choose the highest, when

you want to warp and still reach the recce craft.

Ryan, I think your best bet is to use this quiet time to hone your flying, gunning, and stalking skills. There will be plenty of leave time coming up when you get the Blighty one...or the neverending leave when you go west.

Cheers!

BAH!! I cant abandon my men in the thick of it! I'll go down swingin` with the rest of them Salute.gif

I have been flying with labels off. I think though, in this weather I'll have to turn them back on. Funny story: I decided (using time advance) to take a months leave; I come back on the 12th of Feb. and my first mission back is a scramble. My two wingmen and I against 3 Sopwith pups all flown by aces, and 4 strutters (dont know why they were attacking like that, but whatever). We were actually doing ok. We stayed low and near our aerodrome to recieve maximum help from our friendly machine gun nests. I had downed one of the pups and had my sights on another, I was in a bit of a pup sandwitch though with one of them on me like white on rice! My wingmen were trying to deal with the strutters and while watching one of them nearly run into the enemy craft I look ahead right as I run into the pup I was chasing! dntknw.gif . So long story short: I take a months leave and my first mission back, I'm hospitalized for 17 days lol.gif .
