I lost the screenshot so here it is.

 

While attacking a target near Peenemunde. Flowers and DeComp were shot down by ground fire and taken prisoner.

 

I'll do my best to get in about two-thee missions a week in the future but i now have something i'm working on that takes up virtually all my non work hours.

 

Damn Cliff, at this rate you'll be doing the missions solo before long!

Good morning gents... as the snow has finally descended on Vienna :clapping: more flying time is required.

 

New Campaign.

 

A-6A North Vietnam (I love the challenge).

 

Will post first mission write up later today but damn it was fun SAM's bad guys and enough triple A that I could have become a lead salesman and the biggest surprise is I survived it all... even though I flew far too low for Vietnamaverage heights of 500ft agl and not a scratch on her.

Well looks like my first flight was the only flight... got nailed by a Mig coming of target after surviving 8 Sam Launches not happy... I will be giving up for a week or so as I am getting my new PC this weekend... and then loading everything back on it... :grin:

Edwin Flowers is grounded for now. I have a USMC A6 driver with two missions flown in WOV. i'll supply all details once i get home from work tommorrow.

I still havn't got my PC etc setup, but that will change this weekend. Need to do a full uninstall and reinstall of Everything again grrr... oh well thats what holidays are for...

April/1972

 

Back at it again with my first ever USMC pilot.

 

First two missions were pretty straight forth. The strike needed a roundabout flightpath since there is a Fansong to the SE of the Arrowhead. Perhaps we'll deal with that site in the near future.

 

The CAS was prety intense. THe NVA bought in some medium flak guns and it was a bit touch and go until they were knocked out. Then we reduced their infantry to the point where the ARVNs mopped them up.

 

Will be more detailed next flight.

Ok, I thought I would have a try ( at LT James suggestion, thanks mate :good: )

 

My pilot is Pilot Officer Percy " Pranger" Prune, usually based at RAF Prangmere, who has been seconded to the USAF

 

The campaign is Steel Tiger and Percy is flying an F-4C

 

First mission.

 

I think this is the first time I have taken off in WOV. Usually I hop into the cockpit, turn and burn, blow stuff up, kill Commies and call it a day with the ESC key. To me that is the core strength of WOV.

I didn't realise that the aircraft defaulted to having the wheel brakes on, which made for an interesting takeoff. Eventually me and Percy got the thing into the air though.

 

I was lead of a four ship, callsign Austin 1. The target was VC troops so I loaded flechette rockets ( awesome, ever seen a flechette ? it's just about the evilest thing ever - I must get some of that ammo for my Saiga-12 shotgun ) and a gun pod. Because I have never considered fuel useage in WOV I went with the loading screens default of two wing tanks.

The rest of my flight got their default loadout.

 

I hate the autopilot in WOV so flew to the target manually at about 10K altitude and 350 knots. just seemed like nice round numbers.

 

The weather isn't bad, just some scattered cloud.

 

On arriving I can see that Buick flight are working over an area to the east of me and getting badly knocked around by medium AAA. I think one went down.

 

Anyway I do my favourite ground attack profile on the VC squad I was sent to kill and there isn't anything coming back up except green tracer from small arms. They are toast so I send the wingman after the next bunch and unleash the rest of the flight on targets of opportunity. I do a couple more runs and then Red Crown tells me that the mission is a success,

I've still got the gun pod but the only other targets are located where Buick were getting the crap kicked out of them so I decide that discretion is the better part of valour.

 

Home, for tea and biscuits :grin:

 

Landing was OK.

 

3 AG kills for me, one for my flight.

In WOV Gold, discretion will keep you alive for sure. Get too gung ho and it's going to be a very short tour.

Since my main comp went down i had to convert my gaming comp to general use and now it's halfway down the tubes. So i have to step away from WOV for the time being.

 

WOE however, can still be coped with and i felt up to a challenge.

 

The pilot-Cecil Hawkins, RAF 85 Squadron. Flying the Javelin, an absolute dog at anything other being a pure interceptor.

 

First sortie is as usual, skimpy on details. 4 Javelins take off to intercept an incoming strike. We found them just short of the target and attacked but out of six Red Streaks fired by Hawkins and wingman Lowell only a single hit and the Beagle didn't go down. Hawkins made a guns attack and hit an IL28 but didn't down it either. The situation was to the point that a hasty return to base was called for since fuel was getting scarce but the number of Soviet fighters was increasing. Drake was chased for quite a ways but outran a pack of Mig17s.

 

Mission failed.

Real life has gotten in the way of Percy's adventures, but on finally returning to duty for his second mission he was shot down by triple A. No chutes I'm afraid ( maybe I should get around to mapping " Eject " to a key combination, that could help survivability :laugh: )

 

I'm going to do some more practise before trying again. I need some better ways to deal with the triple A. Shooting it out toe to toe with them just isn't working in my favour.

 

I'm also thinking about switching to a Sandy. Much easier to handle for the CAS mission when the cloudbase is low.

Hawkins KIA.

 

Made an intercept with Drake on wing. Made a text book attack and Drake got an IL28 while Hawkins missed with all missles. Migs were all over so while Drake ran for home low, Hawkins climbed high with thee MIGs on his tail. Despite getting up to 40,00ft and being at full throttle, a MIG 19 closed to withing firing range. Hawkins then dove but the MIG couldn't be evaded and that was it.

 

 

Siddley- If you look over my past posts, you can see what one will experience in a SPAD. The battles that my squadron fought against North Vietnamese air defenses would have wiped out a unit of fast movers in short order. A few times, i was absolutely convinced that the end at hand due sheer amount of ground fire but the SPAD got home despite damage that would have reduced any other aircraft to an earthbound fireball.

I guess I've been doing DiD from day one and not knowing it. May have to check my settings a bit but I have always brought in a new pilot when my current one gets wasted. Always do my missions all the way through without alt-n.

 

My current campaign is in WOV flying Scooters for VA-163 (pilot Bull Lee...I tend to take names from Jack Kerouac books for some reason) in a campaign I created a while ago (CVW-16 1967) that I have done 6 sorties already. Taking Lt. Cater's advice and ignoring the waypoints...hugging those hills until getting close to the target then letting them have it! So far so good. Any memorable missions I will post.

Back in action! Only this time i'm flying for the other side!

 

My current pilot is Oleg Petrov and i'll get into character with the next reports as i just want to get things going and since i flew these lte yesterday, i've probally forgotten a few details.

 

First sortie. Did not turn out as planned.

 

We took off and headed towards the front as we knew that the enemy was going to be very active. As we were within 30 kms of the front, control told that there were enemy planes just ahead but they had changed course and were heading west. However, our rate of closure was enough to convince me that they were probaly bombers or recce aircraft so we kept pursuing. Right over Hof we got notice of two groups of enemies to the slightly to the southwest and northwest. The one from the southwest was low and had more aircraft so it was probaly bombers and their escorts and so we went after them.

 

Instead,a few moments later two flights of F-100s came roaring up at us.

 

They were Frenchmen and they wanted a fight!

 

The resulting brawl was a revalation. Not only did my fighter handle like a dream and allowed me to down four of the enemy with almost contempuos ease, but also how four of us were shot down in turn with only Major Timofei Gnido scoring a victory over the French in the fight. Fuel soon was low and so we ran for home. Despite hoping the enemy would do the same these were of tough stuff and chased us all the way and shot down the rest until only i was left with two of them trying to kill me.

 

As i over flew the base at low level and the air defenses opened up, i got an inspiration. Flying low and slow, i contantly turned into the enemies attacks and did my utmost to lure them right over the guns. The enemy took the bait and were hooked! One was damaged and fled and the other went down trailing smoke about 100m from the runway!

 

We certainly need to change what we are doing.

 

The second sortie was perfect. Sasha Babonin and i were on alert when we took off on a call. The weather was horrible but control was perfect. We went were vectored right onto the enemy and came out of the clouds right behind them about two kilometers range. With the speed we built up in the dive we closed on A pair of Yankee F-105s in a flash and engaged them. They didn't stand a chance. JR LT Babonin opened missed with his first burst at the leader just a second before i opened fire the wingman. Flaming the F-105, i manuvered towards the the other target, got in close to make sure of it and shot this one down also.

 

Hah, they didn't make it closer than 35kms to Mimon! Perhaps that'll show the Yankees that we are not without sting. Control verified the kills and we went home.

Another glorious day comrades! The foe is in pain now.

 

Taking a lesson from our fiasco of a few days ago we decided on a few tricks.

The weather was pleasant and we decided to take advantage. After takeoff we zoomed to 6,00meters and headed towards the front at an economical throttle setting. The closer we got the more contacts we received from Control. Knowing that our bombers were going to be active, we expected a quick enemy response. It soon came to pass right at the moment that a Yankee cargo plane came into sight about 7kms away to our right at virtually equal altitude with a of pair of F-100s from dead ahead. Ordering Sasha to get the cargo plane, the rest of us engaged the fighters.

 

It was over much quicker than anyone would have anticipated.

 

We passed each other and reversed to engage. As i was about to pass head on with my chosen target(Frenchmen again)i ventured a quick snapshot and was rewarded with the enemy plane disintergrating in a massive explosion. I then decided to engage the next one but Victor and Vadim had the situation well in hand. Pulling off some, i watched as Capt Akmet-Khan skillfully hounded the enemy before dispatching him in flames.

 

Instantly, Control gave us more targets and we swiftly responded. Enemy planes behind us about 15kms coming low from the northwest. We haul our planes around and head towards the foe. Soon we caught sight of them as being a flight of Canberras with a pair of F-100s as escorts.

 

"Everyone attack!"

 

On my first pass, i damage an enemy plane but pull up and slow down quickly enough to remain in a superior position. In quick succesion from right to left, three of the bombers fall to the guns of my MIG. By now fuel is getting low and more F-100s have been sighted. Away we go, back to the heights in the direction of home. Full throttle, stand the aircraft on it's tail and up we go to 7,000 meters. Here's where we reach into our bag of tricks. In the distance, we have an area picked out that is festooned with our anti-aircraft guns. If the enemy insists, we will drag them over the guns and present them as ducks to be shot down by our ground forces.

 

But that is only if they are in some numbers. Sasha is some distance behind and he knows he has a single F-100 climbing up after him, so we pull another trick. Once it is established that the enemy plane is alone, the others are sent ahead as i turn back to go after the foe. As i closed in JR LT Barborin quickly reversed and turned the tables on his pursuer. Well, that's what we thought but this one had skill. No matter what Sashsa did the enemy didn't lose position. Calling for him to break he did a beautiful move, he climbed up and began a long arcing turn to the east. By now we know we can outclimb F-100s so it was perfect as long as the turn continued and didn't allow the foe to fire a missle.

 

I closed in gradually, not wanting to startle the foe. By now we knew it was a Yankee. I could see the stars on the wings as well as three slanting green lines acoss the tail. We all were in climbing turn at with Sasha at about 9 kms altitude when i closed the range to 200 meters and pulled the trigger.

 

The American bailed out as his plane exploded.

With that we turned for home.

 

Once we got back i ground i was filled with disapointment that Sasha didn't down the cargo plane, just merely damaged it! He really needs to work on his gunnery.

OCT 1962

 

The four of us on another mission. This time escorting our bombers to Ramstein.

 

Since we knew that the range and anticipated fight would consume fuel, we climbed high after takeoff to 7,000meters. Then we settled in to keeping our fuel consumption down and meeting up with our bombers. The flight was calm for us, but as we neared the front we could hear other units fighting the Yankees and their NATO puppets. We were heartened by many victory calls, even the gunners on the IL28s were scoring well.

 

Despite many throttle changes and our circling to give our bombers a lead we had overflown them after the initial point. Thre was heavy fighting going on to the SE but despite it all, the the intitial enemy attack on our charges came from out of nowhere towards their rear. We pulled our MIGs around and dove down to protect them.

 

Thankfully, there were only a few F-100s and we tore into them as the bombers scattered.

 

The first to go down exploded from a short burst at 200m range. We were in a frantic fight but the American fighter was no match for my mount. The obvious advantages we have is telling. The second was somehwat more difficult as i missed a few times as this one manuvered well enough to twice force overshoots. The third time i was ready and blasted him from the sky with a solid burst.

 

And then there were none. Control released us from our task and redirected us towards a larger fight over a second bomber force to the SE. Apparently their escort was overwhelmed by sheer numbers. They were holding their own but as they were fighting for their lives, other F-100s went after the now naked bombers.

 

As we closed in, apparently some of the enemy decided to disengage and head south. Keeping in mind our fuel state we went full speed and caught the stragglers. Both i and Capt Amet-khan sent them down in flames. The markings showing these were Frenchman(again!)

 

So off it was back to altitude and home.

 

We made it back by the sheerest of margins. The MIG19 is a wonderful aircraft but we truly wish we could carry a bit more fuel. At least we now we know what is the extreme combat range for future missions.

the Mig19 is one of the greatest birds i have ever had the pleasure to fly. In 1962 it rules absolutely! The firepower is really something. The modus operandi for anyone using this plane is to get in really close to your target before firing. 3XNR30s is the kiss of death to anything in your sights.

 

As for the handling, it is in a very small class. Saddling F-100s is virtually child's play.

We continue to roll over the foe.

 

The order for the escort mission gave us pause due to the range we were going to fly. Due to the low level of the bombers, the fight would be low and cost us a lot of fuel.

 

Going along with me were..

We flew very high to conserve fuel and even though we couldn't see through the overcast, Control kept us informed of the Bombers' location and as we neared the initial point, the movements of enemy aircraft. Our plan was to dive down upon the enemy fighters when the bombers called.

 

And that is exactly how it happened!

 

The first F-100 i downed never had a clue or a chance as he was intent on firing missles at our IL28s. Then a tremendous fight occured.

There was all kinds of activity in the area as other attacks were going on but we had the Americans at a disadvantage. The next three victories were due entirely to the wonderful qualities of our planes. Once you begin fighting an F-100 and make it turn a few times it loses enough speed that getting in behind is a certainty. Then it it a matter staying with it as it tries to evade and closing into firing position.

 

Despite my success, no one else scored.

 

The interception sortie was a smashing good time. Lev took off with me and we swiftly climbed, got directions from Control and headed towards the enemy. There were many factors that had to be taken into account concerning the numbers and makeup of the enemy. If they were escorted, i would sen Lev after the bombers and i would take on the escorts. Slim odds but it needed to be done. However, when we closed in and overflew the enemy, we could see it was a single flight of Canberras.

 

It was over swiftly, the British planes were merely marks to be added to the scoreboard.

 

 

We received notice of more planes some distance to the west but since we accomplished our primary mission we turned for home.

Alas, we lose two more of our aircraft today.

 

I wonder if the Americans have sent some of their instructors or veteran pilots to the front as we fought against F-100s that did not fly like the usual targets. These manuvered very effectively and made for some difficult shots. I downed one, but then Sasha and i were shot down in quick succession. Apparently, as i slowed after pulling up and using the speed brakes to maintain a position above the F-100 it must have also slowed and put it's nose up to the point of a stall and opened fire.

 

Thankfully, i was just high enough to be able to bail out as the plane snapped out of control.

Time to hit back at the imperialist American Warmonger Pirate dogs... :grin: After my 3 years in the glorious Soviet Republic I am sent to China to complete my final training to fly against the Imperial Dogs the Americans... I am to be sent to fly what the Yankees call the Mig-19 or the Chinese copy of it... and a wonderous beast it is I am sure many a Pirate will die to its guns... Sent to fly for the Glorious 925th Regiment.

Took off and headed straight to Intercept the Imperialist coming from their floating den of sin off shore. I managed to get 1 Phantom with bright navy markings on it before having to dive away to avoid an imperialist coward trying to shoot me from many kilometres away instead of taking me on man to man... I popped back up and got another Phantom and with nothing left to do I flew home under direction of our wonderous Radar controllers.

Guns and drop tanks.

 

Took off under control and headed for the imperialists and after a lot of low flying to avoid their cowardly rockets I got onto the tail of some small jets carrying bombs and shot all 4 down what a glorious sight. My wingmen also got kills and brought down more imperialists sky pirates. As I headed home with my wingmen we see 2 more Yankees dogs attacking an airfield so we went into help and brought them down in 2 short bursts one for me and one for my wingman. We landed and found out we had lost 3 of our comrades in arms a sad day only brightened with the enemy shot from the sky.

Today we intercepted more sky pirates but there where too many of them and I was hit by a cowardly missile and brought down. And here I am in hospital listening to the bombs from the sky pirates wanting to take back to the skies and shoot more of them down.
