tone12 0 Posted December 14, 2009 hi, im tryin to use as many of the dead is dead settings as possible but the most difficult one to decide on is labels. even on a wide screen 24 inch lcd monitor im findin it really hard to even spot specks in the distance, never mind id them. i figure that it would be easier to spot them in real life as opposed to tryin to find a tiny pixel on a monitor screen. how are you guys usin this feature? Olham 164 Posted December 14, 2009 (edited) tone12, as long as I don't fly the DiD, I switch them on occasionally to see, how many enemies there are, and at what altitudes. But in Full DiD, I just use Flak as a dead certain sign there are enemies. As a German, I am mostly flying over own terrain, and there it is a great help. When I see Flak, I often pause, and zoom in several notches, until I can recognise the aircraft, or at least their number. Zooming in would be even allowed in Full DiD, as it is like using binoculars. The "pause" key might be an immersion killer, but as I can't just use the glass like a real person could in a real flight, I make that compromise. Enemies high will be visible much better. You must then make a quick decision: fight or leave. If it's fight, you best climb towards them. Enemies low are worse to see, but therefor you have time. Circle, to get some sun glare on their wings from some angle. Zoom in, make yourself a good picture of their number and maybe type, before you go lower. Don't rush head over heels into this - check the sky around and above, too. Act, as if it could really cost your life. Rickitycrate 10 Posted December 14, 2009 I'm not using it for DiD campaign aka Krauts & Crumpets. I use it when not flying DiD but using most other DiD settings. 1) it is helpful 2) it is interesting to see who you are fighting with 3)it is right to not use it for DiD, just entirely too helpful IMO

MikeDixonUK 5 Posted December 14, 2009 (edited) For me I always have the labels off as I find it more satisfying when I do spot aircraft in the distance. Also I'm abit odd in that I enjoy getting "bounced" by the Hun sometimes. Another odd thing for me is that it seems when I have labels on or any text it lowers my frame rate by about 10 FPS, but it's not realy an issue for me though as I don't use the text. I suppose at the end of the day it depends on your personal preference and what size monitor you have, also the state of your eyesight. Burning Beard 14 Posted December 14, 2009 I only use them when flying online, that way I can separate my wingman from the AI. I do use the tac though. Beard
ConradB 0 Posted December 14, 2009 I never use it. Although since I don't have T/IR, I do use padlock while fighting. I just turn it on and off to get a view of where the opponent is in reference to my plane.
