Olham 164 Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) Isn't she a most beautiful pilot? Elly Beinhorn was the first German woman piloting an aircraft. She went to Afrika and Asia on adventurous flights, but I don't know details. Must get the book about her early aviation adventures! Olham 164 Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) WM: Ok, She's Not bad!...But she's a Hun...have to get a bead on her with my Twin Vickers! Twin Vickers? You must be dreaming, old boy! Shooting at this girl - you should be ashamed of yourself! But women where not allowed in the German army nor air force, so you may keep your rounds.. She was a beautiful lady, and she could pilot an aircraft - what more could you ask for? PS: and she's no Hun - a Hunness, maybe... (Aw, god, now I HAVE sunken down to his level of argumentation!!!) ConradB 0 Posted January 17, 2010 Any pics without the flying cap? She's a looker all right! And she can fly too! Woof Woof! Even better if she was a redhead.
Mr. Lucky 0 Posted January 17, 2010 She could pull my prop through any day! For my part, beats the hell out of Amelia Earhart. Nice find Olham...though I agree witk UK W about the first one. Would need to see her out of the flying gear to judge for sure.
Rickitycrate 10 Posted January 17, 2010 This lady lived 100 years, 1907-2007. I had to look before I might say anything about her as I thought if she was still with us she might track me down and rack my ass. You're safe UK Widowmaker, maybe.
Check Six 2 Posted January 17, 2010 An early Aussie aviatrix, Nancy-Bird Walton. A true pioneer, she was flying supplies in and patients out of the rugged Australian bush and deserts when barely a teenager. She wrote an autobiography, and aptly named it after her usual greetings in those days "My God! It's a WOMAN" I had the pleasure of meeting her. She passed away last year. http://www.ctie.mona...walton_bio.html
UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted January 17, 2010 You KNOW I'm just kidding and having a bit of Banter don't you chaps?
carrick58 23 Posted January 17, 2010 I salute her. Just to do the things she did during that time period was Brave. She must have been a determined and resourceful lady. Bravo to her and all that pushed the limits.
Rickitycrate 10 Posted January 17, 2010 You KNOW I'm just kidding and having a bit of Banter don't you chaps? Banter you say? Methinks you came to your senses. Cheers to all the aviation pioneers.
rabu 9 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) Pancho Barnes wasn't that good looking, but what a flier and test pilot.. and the 'birth" of Edwards Air Force base. Walton and Beinhorn are good looking, but the first photo of Beinhorn she looks more like a man. Edited January 17, 2010 by rabu
itifonhom 6 Posted January 17, 2010 I prefer the Aussie!! Any French suggestions?? Anastasios
Flyby PC 23 Posted January 17, 2010 Harriet Quimby was a bit of a looker too. First American Woman to get a pilot's licence, and first woman to cross the English Channel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harriet_Quimby
Olham 164 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) Thank you all for your contributions - WomenFly2 comes to my mind; a pity she left us. Elly may look a bit androgynous, but why not - a woman who makes a flying license and travels round the globe in a single seater in those pioneer days, may not be she soft girly type. But here's a pic without a flying cap. (My god - we are talking about female pilots in a typical male style here. But what can we do?...) itifonhom 6 Posted January 17, 2010 I´ll stick with the Aussie, she looks faaaaaaaaar better than the other two! But maybe a French will take the podium! ( I´m sorry to say that 100% of my genes are male, can´t help it) Anastasios.
Olham 164 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) Okay, here is a French pilotess, Denise Moore. And an American aviatress (?), Julia Clark. (Still my heart beats most for Elly...) Edited January 17, 2010 by Olham
RAF_Louvert 101 Posted January 17, 2010 . I'm going with Belgian-born Hélène Dutrieu: (and if someone tries to straighten out that overbite I'll kill 'em!) Now, for most interesting life bio of an early aviatrix it has to be, hands down, Marthe Richard Betenfeld . "She's a very kinky girl. The kind you don't take home to mother..." . itifonhom 6 Posted January 17, 2010 Yes Sir, Belgium just take head in the race, even with this..... hhmmmmm...... smile! :-) +1 Anastasios
Olham 164 Posted January 17, 2010 Marthe Richard, née Betenfeld (1889–1982) was a prostitute and spy. She later became a politician and worked towards the closing of brothels in France in 1946. There - what I always say about politicians! Professional liars! Even deny themselves!! No, you all must be half blind from wearing the wrong goggles - Elly is the one I'd choose!
