Gun Platform

I was wondering. If we made a list of OFF aircraft based on being the most Stable gun platform , What would be the highest and what would be lowest? My vote Albatross or Fokker D-7 Best of the german, Spad best of French and Sopwith Pup best of Brits. The worst Fokker EV , N-11, and DH 5. What do you guys think ?

My vote is the Nieuport 17 Bis. Cowl mounted vickers and upper wing mounted Lewis gun with 741 rounds total. It hits hard!

I think the SE5 and Brisfit are both more stable gunplatforms than the Pup, but the Pup's very stable for a rotary bird.

 

HOWEVER, the absolute best gun platform is the Fee. You don't even have to line up with the target like a regular figher, just get in the general vicinity and your observer can get him with the swivel front gun

Carrick, first you should define, what a "stable gun platform" means to you?

Stability in flying, aiming, firing and hitting the target? (and not the overall flying and turning qualities?)

 

If it is that, all German Albatros, and also the Pfalz are best.

All Fokker, even the D VII, are already much more "nervous" on the stick; so it's harder to aim and hit.

 

British craft would be the S.E.5 and the Bristol Fighter.

 

French: both SPAD VII and XIII

DVII for me in German colours... can't really comment on the French Kites...hardly ever fly them..and yep..I'll go with the SE5a for the British one too

Carrick, sorry friend, I'ld weigh-in if I had more time with all the crates. They later models I've hardly touched what with the large number of both scouts and two-seaters.
