I wanted to practise the flameout landing training mission.

But each try ended in a belly landing cause the gear said NO.

- engine was off

- I switched EPU on

- all stores dropped

- tower knew about emergency

- ILS works

- AIRBRAKE works

- flight controls OK

only the gear went on strike, no chance with G-key, clicking gear lever - no result

I've found nothing in the manual. Is it a program bug or something I've forgotten to do ?

TNX for your replies

You need to lower the gear using Shift-Ctrl-Alt-G

You should have a key map with all these bits in - and yes its in the manual where its descibed how to perform the training mission

ya it works. My mistake was to try it with alternate gear button in 2D cockpit.

There the mouse cursor looks like an U and manual says "click and move or pull "

That did not work.

May be my mouse driver makes some trouble. For example in the setup it needs

a few attempts till I can "lock" a little gray ball to move it left or right.

( or moving a steepoint on the map )

Anyway

thanks again !

If you cant remember the key stroke there is another way. you have your gear lever and you get no reaction from your gear, go to the lower left of the screen just below the canopy lever. this is a pull lever that unlocks the gear and in goes to the down position, Once pulled, the gear can not be put back up so be sure you are ready for it.

Happy Hunting

Hey. I'm going through the FAF4.0 manual and got stuck with the flameout landing. No way i could land the bird safely. I can reach the RWY, but hit it like a damn rock. Manual says to approach with 6degree of AoA. If the AOA is ajusted to 6degrees, the aircraft would be pointing its nose to the sea. Found

youtube flameout tutorial, but can't follow those instructions either. Just can't maintain those glidepaths without losing the airspeed.

Forget that - jettison the stores, line up with the runway, descend with the nose down about 10-11 degrees (as per the HUD bars)

Keep speed below 300kts all the way down and aim short of the runway, when you are low enough drop the gear and get the nose level - then check how fast you are going - you want to touch down between 160 - 200kts at the start of the Runway, use the rudder (if you have pedals) to straighten up if required, then use the brakes (you have limited braking power btw)

Bare in mind that even landing with an engine in Falcon takes a lot more practise than other sims.

Thanks, third attempt was a success. I figured you need to cross the THR at highest speed you could (ergo lower gear few hundred feet pior to crossing THR to maintain that speed). Otherwise it stalls pretty badly.

My speeds were:

Over the THR: 211kts

first touchdown @ 175kts (then the plane jumped off again)

final touchdown @153kts

Landing was pretty smooth, although i had to use all lenght of the stopway:D

Edit: what would be the touchdown speed during normal landing? Obviously 130kts as written in the manual is incorrect. I try to nail the 160-170 kts, is it ok?

There seems to be lot of erroneus info in the manual?:D

The flight model and many other things were changed in the 13 patches since the 2005 release based on feedback etc - the manual was never updated - and you will find lots of other advice it gives as rubbish also.

160-190 should be okay - the slower you get be careful not to have the nose too high you will land on the tail.
