Delivery of the ship will be in 2012. Russia and India have signed a $1.5-billion contract on the supplies of 29 more MiG-29K carrier-based fighter jets to New Delhi, the head of the Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG said on Friday. "An agreement on supplying an additional set of MiG-29K fighter jets has been signed, the start of supplies is scheduled for 2012," Mikhail Pogosyan said. The deal was signed during Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi. Pogosyan said Russia should fulfill the previous contract on supplies of single-seat MiG-29K fighters to India by 2010. Russia and India signed a contract stipulating the supply of 12 single-seat MiG-29Ks and four two-seat MiG-29KUBs to India in January 2004. The contract is part of a $1.5 billion deal to deliver the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier, currently being retrofitted in Russia for the Indian navy. India's first MiG-29Ks and MiG-29KUBs officially entered service earlier this year. Analysts believe that India will remain the main purchaser of Russian-made combat aircraft for the next 15 years under existing and future contracts, as the country desperately needs to upgrade its fighter fleet, which includes Su-30MKI and MiG-29 fighters, but mainly consists of obsolete Soviet MiG-21 models. Russia against developing military ties with Pakistan Russia is not developing military cooperation with Pakistan, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Friday. "I would like to stress that Russia is not maintaining military cooperation with Pakistan as it takes into account the concerns of [our] Indian partners," Putin said after a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In the 1990s, Pakistan was the chief purchaser of T-80UD tanks produced by Ukraine. India and Pakistan resumed talks on normalizing bilateral relations for the first time in many years in 2008, but the peace hopes were shattered when a coordinated terrorist attack hit the Indian city of Mumbai in November 2008, claiming at least 166 lives and wounding more than 300 people. India then blamed the Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Taiba movement for the assault and said it wanted to see a "visible response" from Islamabad. New Delhi has a long history of military ties with Moscow. The current cooperation program comprises about 200 joint projects, including the transfer of technology for the licensed assembly of T-90 tanks in India, the production of BrahMos missiles and the purchase of Smerch MLRS by India. SayethWhaaaa 245 Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) India's also about to sign (or has signed) a deal to purchase something like 20ish C-17s as well... Edit: Oops, that was actually a request for the C-17. I think they made the right choice on the 29K, it's so far removed from the early models of the 29 that comparing the two would be a perilous and unwise decision for any military planner. +ghostrider883 526 Posted March 13, 2010 Yeah, the 29K is a different beast when compare to the 29Bs which India acquired in the 80s. some of these early MiG-29Bs are in Russia now undergoing an upgrade, which will bring them upto SMT standards.I hope the navy's experience with the 29Ks pushes the IAF to select the MiG-35....lot of commonalities with the 29K.
