Springroll 0 Posted March 26, 2010 Hi, Long time lurker on these forums and a huge fan OFF fan :-) So now to my question. I have recently ordered a new computer (or parts to a new computer actually) and I just wanted to hear if this is a good setup for the game. AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5 XFX Radeon HD 5870 1024MB Corsair XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1600MHz DDR III Corsair TX850W Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 64MB Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit All this in a Fractal Design Define R2, Titanium case because I like the look :-) I know this is a powerful system but OFF is a strange beast at times... /Springroll
Barkhorn1x 14 Posted March 26, 2010 I have pretty much the EXACT same PC on order from CyberPower. OFF, being based on CFS3 (old code) is not able to make use of multiple cores. But the 965 has a 3.4 Ghz per core, which is pretty beefy, so I am expecting very good results here. The GPU should be more than up to the task as well. I expect that others who already play w/ multi-cores and ATI cards will give you more specifics.
Von Paulus 8 Posted March 26, 2010 What Barkhorn1x said it's 100% correct. The fact of having a core running at 3.4 Ghz helps a lot. Now I've a quadcore I5-750 @2.7Ghz, and while my last CPU was just a core2duo E8500 @ 3.18Ghz, the later one had better performance with OFF. I'll have to OC it and probably try one CPU affinity tool to have the same performance I had. But with 3.4Ghz I think it will be ok.
BirdDogICT 3 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Springroll, I have very close to the same setup, with the exception of X2 550 processor and ATI 5770. Runs BHaH like a scalded cat at default CPU speed of 3.1 GHZ. Runs even better OC'd to 3.6, and I don't have any issues with heat with only two cores. Running with most settings maxed out. The only problem I have now is that I sold my old rig and am still waiting for the new to arrive... hence I have nothing to play on. I actually scrubbed the floors yesterday to my wife's astonishment :-) Thanks to everyone for the replies :D
Barkhorn1x 14 Posted March 29, 2010 ...am still waiting for the new to arrive... Same issue here - new rig comming Wednesday - or so states UPS. This means I should be testing by Saturday and back into OFF by Monday night.
