Its new to me and its a very good video at explaining the Rotary and its issues... I understand inline engines V-twin etc Engines but never understood how a Rotary was different in the control of an Airplane... Dont get many Rotary engines on Motorbikes

Well, these early aircraft rotaries do really rotate themselves around the propellor axis.

That is not the same as later radial engines.

And when the whole engine rotates, you get a lot of centrifugal force!

But in the hands of an expert they were lethal weapons

Seat of your pants flying at the most extreme

Trick was gaining that expertise before it killed you

Informative vids - thanks Olham. I remember going to Old Rheinbeck Aerodrome in NY when I was 9 years old and seeing them start these old engines - and I was hooked on WWI a/c from then on. Good times.

You can feel a great difference in the gyroscopic effect when riding a motorcycle with the usual chain drive and one that utilises a shaft drive. Very hairy if you're not prepared for it.
