AGOSTINO Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 What is the 27MM_BK27_data.ini more realistic for the 27mm Mauser BK27?? This: A) [GunData001] TypeName=27MM_BK27 FullName=Mauser BK 27 Caliber=27.000000 ROF=1700.000000 MuzzleVel=1025.000000 AmmoWt=0.260000 WarheadWt=0.000000 Reliability=100.000000 Accuracy=100.000000 AddLight=TRUE MaxLightRange=1200.000000 FireColor=0.400000,0.320000,0.240000 GunFireEffect=30mmFireEffect GunFireSound=Cannon EffectClassName=30mmEffects EffectTime=0.100000 TracerTexture=Tracer.tga TracerSize=0.200000 TracerDistFactor=0.002000 TracerLength=0.018000 MaxVisibleDist=4000.000000 MaxStreakVisibleDist=1000.000000 TimeFuzed=FALSE or this: B) [GunData001] TypeName=27MM_BK27 FullName=27mm Mauser BK27 Caliber=27.000000 ROF=1800.000000 MuzzleVel=1025.000000 AmmoWt=0.180000 WarheadWt=0.018000 Reliability=100.000000 Accuracy=75.000000 AddLight=TRUE MaxLightRange=1200.000000 FireColor=0.500000,0.450000,0.320000 GunFireEffect=23mmFireEffect GunFireSound=Cannon EffectClassName=23mmEffects EffectTime=0.100000 TracerTexture=Tracer.tga TracerSize=0.150000 TracerDistFactor=0.002000 TracerLength=0.015000 MaxVisibleDist=4000.000000 MaxStreakVisibleDist=1000.000000 TimeFuzed=FALSE Quote
+Gocad Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 (edited) A is closer, especially with regard to ROF. Btw, warhead weight should be 0.260 and ammo weight 0.516. Edited April 9, 2010 by Gocad Quote
+Florian Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Both are kind of wrong. The first one has the correct ROF and MuzzleVel entries, but the warhead weight calling 0.0 is very lightweight! In reality the ammo weight is 516 gramms and the warhead is 260 g. The Accuracy is good, but not 100%, so i would set this to 90-95, the "MaxStreakVisibleDist" should been set higher i think, as the real gun has a battle range up to 2700 meters. What effect you use is more up to you. For example The Alpha Jet Gunpod has a larger flash damper mounted, then the Tornado, therefor you get two different fire flashes with the same gun. Quote

I feel it to be overmodeled, because the force created by the firing gun is very strong and it is absolutly deadly. Compard to all other guns it has the highest warhead weight per caliber, wich rippes everything apart! LOL On the other hand, that is what it does in real! Gatling guns, for example, are firing their maximum ROF after about 1 second. During fire bursts of half a second (wich are common in fighting situations) these can bring about 2 Kg of "steel" into the target, while the Mauser BK 27 fires over 4 Kg in the same time. The ROF of the Mauser is availlable from the first shot and the warhead weight is higher. Quote

FrankD Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) The datas you guys collected for the gun itself are, as far as I know, corrects but the figures posted for the ammos made me wonder if my eyes were kidding me. So I did my homework and here are the datas from Jane's publications, A G Williams's book "Rapid Fire" and ammo collector website municion.org: AmmoWt=0.26000 WarheadWt=0.027 CartridgeWt=0.516000 The ammo is the 27x145mm DM 21 (HE). The warhead weight is 27g, not 260g, which would be very hard to fill in a "small" such round. Even with a lot of Vaseline! For a comparison, the WW2 famous 3cm Minengeschoß fired by the not least famous Mk 108 canon were filled with, at most, 85g of explosive. The more modern HEI round fired by the A-10's GAU-8 contains 58g of explosive. Best regards Edited March 10, 2011 by FrankD Quote
+Gepard Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Warhead does not only mean the weight of explosives, but also the weight of the projectile. Quote
FrankD Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Well Gepard, I have a lot of respect for your experience but about that precise bit, if you are right, then the whole default database is wrong. From what I have seen by cross-checking each entries with reliable sources, it is, in common terms, as follow: AmmoWt=Projectile Weight (Kg) WarheadWt="Bursting charge" (Kg) CartridgeWt=Cartridge weight (Kg) (In Kg when editing the ini directly, otherwise in the Gun Editor, it's, as displayed, in grams) Quote
+Gepard Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I still modding first generations only. In the gun editor there is only AmmoWt and WarheadWt. Maybe, that TK had changed more than i expected. Quote

So am I, but I do have a gun.ini with WarheadWt for everything firing grenades i.e. as from 20mm calibre....... Houdoe, Derk Quote
Lt. James Cater Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I love these discussions on purely technical grounds. It also helps in being able to state that, all things considered, the single best thing you can do is to get so close to the target that the windscreen is filled and open fire. Quote

The Iowa class battleships could deliver a total of 10.800 kg in half a second second if the target was close enough ........ Houdoe, Derk Quote

I don't know much about TK's personal evolution, but for SF1, as there are only AmmoWt and WarheadWt parameters, you are absolutely right, the WarheadWt is weight of the projectile, all inclusive. That's one more thing to keep in mind for converting guns from SF1 to SF2. Best regards Edited March 11, 2011 by FrankD Quote
