Gr.Viper 131 Posted May 17, 2010 Thanks to Epizikl's poniter I present you this A short video in this item http://www.popmech.ru/blogs/post/1395-okoltsovannyiy-samol-t/ Yes the caption at the beginnig say's it's done in 10-13m/s side wind. And a totally crazy flight here Apparently it flies only because it doesn't let go of the air. From what I gather they have the balls to test it in most extreme wind and with car-grade petrol. Lexx_Luthor 57 Posted May 18, 2010 I like it. I wonder if this is good for wing tip stalls.
FastCargo 412 Posted May 18, 2010 Well, it's more or less a biplane with no wingtips and therefore no tip drag. However, the wing ends (for lack of a better word) would be heavy, and not provide much except lateral stability in an odd location. FC
Gr.Viper 131 Posted May 18, 2010 Judging by the way it performs a banking turn, a geat deal of its lift is generated by the prop. I liked an explanation by someone of the design team, that this wing "traps the air in a tube, thus the air has nowhere to go and is forced to do its job" Oh, and they also say the plane can be easily built out of sheet metal. shotdown 8 Posted May 18, 2010 A ring shaped wing is not exactly a new idea: Look here
Gr.Viper 131 Posted May 18, 2010 The idea is indeed old as PopMech article described. The point of these guys is that they built a flyable ring out of junk and an engine.
