Have you tried any of the SF 2 games with multiple displays?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anybody has tried any of the SF2 games with multiple displays/monitors?

If so I've love to hear what your experiences were.

i.e. does the view properly expand while in cockpit allowing you to see much further to the left and right of the cockpit (really handy for dogfighting).

i.e. can you assign different parts of the game view to different monitors, e.g. the moving map display, radar etc

I am pretty sure that these games support triplehead2go which allows you to spread the view across three monitors, however undocking screens and dragging them to other monitors like in FS is another one of those wishlist items :this:

Thanks romflyer. If I have time I might try and bring my copy of SF2V into my office in the next few days and try it out on one of our multi-monitor workstations (they're not triplehead2go though) and see if anything happens.

I know I did it a few times in XP using the nVidia drivers to treat my two displays as one desktop, it was then just a case of fiddling with the display settings in game. However I don't think I've got that option in Win7 which is a bit annoying as it worked on quite a few games.

You should be able to get it working in Windows 7 SkippyBing. I found a few mins today to try out SF2V on an ATI Radeon HD 5870 connected to two 30in monitors.

Nothing worked in extended desktop, but when grouped together SF2 did render across both monitors at 5,120 x 1600 :yikes:

Unfortunately, rather than adding more viewspace either side of the cockpit the game by default simply stretched the image horizontally, so that for example all the dials were ovals instead of circles.

I did manage to minimise this distortion by manually editing options.ini and increasing the aspect ratio, but even then the view was only a tiny bit wider than on a single monitor (I could see approx 1in more cockpit spars on either side)...

I'm at a bit of loss to explain why there wasn't significantly more viewable area, but I guess its because despite having an adjustable aspect ratio, SF2 has a fixed FOV.

I'm still keen to try it on a triple-monitor setup though :)

I'm pretty sure FOV can be adjusted too....

But that's in a different ini file, that has to be extracted, right? Viewlist.ini?

Ooo, tell me more :ok:, that sounds very promising. I've had a dig around for viewlist.ini but can't find it in any of the SF2 directories...

Sorry for the double post, but I couldn't see an edit button to update my previous post.

Anyway, here's the update:

Using Catpack.exe I found viewlist.ini in FlightData.cat and it would appear to have several references to FOV in it.

Now if only it wasn't the weekend (and so I don't have access to multiple monitors) :(
