Advanced modding question

Recommended Posts

Was not sure where to post this one, so I thought this would be a good spot so I don't get into trouble again from Wrench :heat:

I have been farting around a little with cockpits, HUD's, avionics, and some flight model issues with the F-14A (really a visual mod activating the differential elevator on the A model). I am interested in fixing somethings on the A-10 flight model, mainly the lack of responsive pitch control. The plane does not have the rate of turn I would have expected out of a plane that can realistically put fire down on the same target roughly 8 seconds after the first pass. Also, the roll rate is a little too fast and kind of jerky when you get over 300kts. I would like to make it a little better, but don't know what each of the little sentences (?) mean, or what "dampeners" are for say pitch and roll.

Is there a forum that would teach me what each string of info means, or can someone explain to me how to change these values to make them more believable? I have messed around a little bit with the F-16 with some success, but really I am just changing stuff and seeing where it leaves me. I would much rather know what I am changing and how it will affect the flight model each time, take the guess work out of it somewhat.

Thank you for all who help!

The A-10's roll rate is purported to be well in excess of 270 degrees per second. Watch this video:

Yes, I see that lol, but it is a little jerky, and if you hold it on it's a little fast. What about the pitch then? You can plainly see that in his roll and pull the nose whips right around, and the model here just does not. It's not a matter of gravity dragging, the nose just does not respond like it should.

Thanks, good info. I knew it was whacky lol. I just read a book about the A-10 crowd in Desert Storm, and all who wrote in said that she can move like no other down low, as in NOTHING WILL BEAT IT IN A TURN FIGHT. While I appreciate even having this plane, especially since MiG Buster and my good friend Cliff made a sweet hometown MD ANG skin for me, but it would seem that some attention would have gone into this.

I will work on it and if I get it to where it is acceptable I will post the improved model in the planes downloads section. Of course I will give credit to Gerwin and Fubar for actually doing the work, just not posting it.

Are you serious?

The SF A-10 is probably overmodeled if anything, as it sustains higher G-loads in-game, than an F-4 Phantom could at the same airspeed. And, its instantaneous turn rate seems to be close to published data.

Of course, I can settle this in the time it takes me to send an email to someone who has both access to the game, and a ton of stick-time in the A-10.
