I recently completed a reconnaissance mission and noticed that the message ‘Goal Completed No More Goals’ came up as I was nearing my home airfield.

A couple of missions ago, my flight was intercepted by Eindeckers and all my wingmen were shot down. Immediately after the last one went down a mission failed message came up. I carried on and completed the mission anyway.

Both missions were recorded and contributed to the total flying time.

Does it make any difference in any way in OFF if you can get a ‘Goal Completed ...’ message - say in terms of promotion?

I think UncleAl is right - I believe to have noticed, that accomplishing your missions will bring you faster promotions,

while shooting down many opponents brings you more medals.

That "Mission failed" message seems to mean to tell you, that you won't have any witnesses for your deeds now -

which is, as if you hadn't done them.

Thanks both. As I am flying reconnaissance and spotting missions in a BE2 I'll continue dutifully follwing my waypoints.

Also if you shoot any planes down after the goals failed messgae you can't claim....as you have no wingmen left...your best just going home once that comes up...

Wayfarer. my relatively limited experience echoes the wise heads of Uncleal and Olham, but I'd just like to acknowledge your outstanding commitment in campaigning still in the much maligned B.E2.

Long may you complete your (mission) goals, Sir - and reap the well-earned rewards of promotion! :salute:

yes, as I said:

Accomplishing the missions = quicker promotion

Shooting down many enemies = more medals

(That's why I usually have lots of metal on my tunic's chest, but still am only Leutnant)

And that's why my two-seater pilots have no medals at all, but get promoted to high ranks in a matter of weeks. Now of course the best way to impress ladies would be to get quick promotions and a lot of medals.

Hmmm - so we can drink milk and eat roasted partridges and fruit then. Quite some progress.

Maybe the ladies are only planned for P5 ...

Reminds me of James Dietz' painting, where all the pilots are just leaving from the ladies...

Thanks TaillyHo. This all explains why Arthur made Major so quickly. I'm not sure whether it's really commitment or just perversity! I think sometimes it's subconsciously my little testament to the real aircrew who had to fly the things.

Wayfarer, I will add my agreement to these comments. My own OFF experiences also support the idea that completing missions and making it home in one piece brings promotions in a more timely fashion. And very good on you Sir for doing so well in the Quirks. A round will be waiting for you at the pub upon your next visit.

Now as to ladies in forthcoming versions of OFF? I believe P5 may be wishful thinking on Herr Olham's part. More likely not until P6 or P7. You know how long it takes women to get ready for anything.

Anyone seen that weird film "Men who are staring at goats" with George Loony - ahh - Clooney?

Was quite funny to watch!

About a special force that is supposed to operate with sheer willpower.

Especially funny is scene, where the Captain (or Colonel?) shouts to the sergeant in the next room:

"Sergeant? I will leave this room now! And I will NOT use the door!"

Then he stands up, concentrates, and starts a full run, until he slams against the wall.

The he is sitting half "collision-drunk" on the floor and says "Damn! ..."
