I hate it when people openly deface it, a hatred which is only fueled by the fact that several people on my street display a cannabis-clad flag on a regular basis. A major deciding factor in selecting the Maple leaf was that in the first World War, Canadian soldiers in France had drawn, carved and engraved maple leaves wherever they could, and it helped give a real feeling of national pride.
