sandbagger Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Hi all, Here's a few of the larger scale models at the BMA 2011 meeting. Quote
Olham Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Man, they could have made them just a little larger, and they could pilot them themselves! I guess, the "Red Arrows" really did some show formation flying? Quote
Hauksbee Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 As if the others weren't big enough...here's real ones? (!) Beautiful stuff. Quote
Wayfarer Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 (edited) Dumb question time ... I'm presuming the jets actually fly. What engines do they use? Edited August 28, 2011 by Wayfarer Quote
Olham Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 They use real little jet engines - see here: http://www.rctoys.com/pr/2008/07/16/how-rc-jet-engines-work/ Quote
Lewie Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 the big jets use the largest RC model jets available. Some are upwards of 50 kg's of thrust. If you are aware of the French experimental the Cri-Cri there's a version running a pair of these larger model jet engines. They've also been adapted to some full scale gliders and also used by the Swiss guy who flew over the Grand Canyon in the "Jetpack Wing Suit". The smaller jet models use a high rotational speed electric motor/ducted fan arrangement, or some of the earlier glow engined ones used ducted fans. Quote
Lewie Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 But I particularly like this guy's ultralight which is powered by a giant scale model helicopter turbine.. Quote
