Aside from the very expensive 3D Studio Max, what programs do you use to create add-on aircraft?

Is it possible to use the Third Wire Export Plug-in in anything besides 3DS Max to export the necessary LOD files?

I've got GMAX, and I've done some modeling for the MS flight sims a long time ago, but I'm much more into TW's SF2 series these days and might like to create some freeware aircraft to upload to CombatAce if I can do it without spending enough for a new Martin guitar for the software.

Thanks!

3D Studio Max is the one you need to make Models for Thirdwire sims. Sorry...

did anypne ever figure out an easy way to convert GMAX to MAX ?

Sorry, I'm a wee bit confused.

When people say LOD plugin, do they mean a Blender exporter plug in to export models to ThirdWire , or a LOD plugin full stop, as Blender has those?

Thirdwire exporter plugin. The Thirdwire LOD format is unique.

Anyone know if the student version of Max is compatible with the exporter?

I've got the license or about another 6 months and wont be able to renew it, nor will I be blowing a months salery on a full license.... if it works though perhaps I could have a crack at producing something before my time runs out.
