Grinseed 19 Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) (damn, the title should have read RE8 of course) Salute LIMA33, well done with your work with the RE8. I have been doing some tinkering (pls note, I only have FEG) and found that if, after loading your new RE8 folder (renaming the FE1-RE8 ini file) and adding just the RE8 data file from Petero1's excellent FM collection, the RE8 flies beautifully under hard flight mode. At least it does for me. I'd be interested to hear if it works for others. Loaded with bombs she is a slow old bird with a stalling speed starting at 54mph, but this fits the eye witness accounts of her taking off 'struggling into the sky, just clearing the treetops' (sic). It takes a steady hand to get her airborne and home again. I've had a flying variation of the RE8 myself for a few months (my wife's serious illness prevented me from uploading) and have had some very interesting missions. I look forward very much to any RE8 campaigns and missions. Cheers Grinseed Edited November 5, 2011 by Grinseed

Grinseed 19 Posted November 6, 2011 Hmmm, its been so long since I first loaded Peter01's FMs that I forgot that there are 'essential files' included in his download that have to be loaded to the game before his FMs take effect. If you have problems flying the RE8 after my suggestion you might want to download his total package...I can thoroughly reccommend for everyone to do so if they havent already. Peter's FMs are essential in themselves imo. Hope no-one has been too inconvenienced by my oversight. Cheers Grinseed
Heck 496 Posted November 6, 2011 Just surviving in a Harry Tate is an adventure. I find myself just kicking the rudder around when Huns are about, just trying to give my gunner a clear shot, cause you're just not going to outmaneuver anyone, that's for sure. I've had some wonderful exercises in hedgehopping home with the bus full of holes. Skim the trenches and land near the balloon line. Call the squadron to send a truck to pick it up. Bulldog 0 Posted November 25, 2011 (edited) I put Peter01's FM in when I installed the RE8 package, and it's flying great in hard mode. Flying FE2 here. Edited November 25, 2011 by Bulldog

I've had some wonderful exercises in hedgehopping home with the bus full of holes. Skim the trenches and land near the balloon line. Call the squadron to send a truck to pick it up. I seem to do that with any 2-seater, especially doing recon. In single missions you always seem to get a swarm of enemy fighters right near the objective, what I've been doing is give my wingman the command to return to base and hope he takes some of them with him, then on the leg home hit the deck and keep giving my gunner as much of a field of fire as possible. Works most of the time.
Grinseed 19 Posted November 26, 2011 I used to have similar experiences in Single Missions with the RE8 (or any of the two seaters) and almost always ended missions forced down on isolated farm fields or worse. However I confess I have since strengthened the armour settings and modified the rear gunner's response, but not so much as to make the RE8 unrealistically invulnerable. This has made a notable difference to survival and fewer rides home in the squadron truck. Thanks to Stephen1918's creative efforts I have modified the Cambrai Campaign for the AFC by replacing the AFC3 B2F and the AFC2 SE5a with the RE8 and the DH5. This makes the campaign historically accurate in terms of aircraft. I also edited their respective mission types. AFC3 was engaged in corps work and conducted no escort or offensive patrols etc. In addition to the armour strength and rear gunner responses, I seek to survive against enemy fighters by ensuring there are friendly fighters nearby. Flying the bombers is every bit as enjoyable as the fighters, but I do recommend making those modifications mentioned above. Cheers Grinseed
