A short, magnificent film...

Recommended Posts

Saint Euxpery's book "Wind, Sand, and Stars" remains one of the great lyrical odes to early flying.....still a magnificent read. Another forgotten great is the children's author Roald Dahl....of "James and the Giant Peach" fame....among others. He flew in Africa during the war and has a marvelous book titled "Over to You" that's lovely. Furthermore...if you're looking for some really dark short stories...try any of the Roald Dahl short story collections

Oh yes, I read Roal Dahl's stories - dark indeed!

And now I know, what Beathe Uhse meant, when she described flying the Bf109 F without ammunition weight;

she said: "Wind, Sand and Stars". She must have meant that book.

(Uhse was a female pilot, who wasn't allowed to fight in WW2, but she had to transfer fighters to squadrons.

Later she became very famous in Germany, cause she had established the first mail order business for

sex hygiene).
