SFP1Ace Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Were F-15As fitted with chaff & flare dispensers from the start? I'm curious, because some book (Eagle Engaged was it?) that I read suggested that they weren't, IIRC. Thanks! Quote
+SkateZilla Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 the only A-Model Air frames that didn't have Countermeasure systems were the TF-15As i think, Quote
SFP1Ace Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 OK, found the book. Eagle Engaged, page 32: "The Tracor ALE-40/45 Contermeasures Dispenser (CMD) was added later (with MSIP, the Multi-Stage Improvement Program) to provide active means of defeating "a missile in t the air"." Really? So Eagles only relied on TEWS and ECM jammer up to mid 80's? O_o Anyone? Quote
MigBuster Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 PM Crusader - cant think of anyone else who cares about F-15s Quote
+SkateZilla Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 One book, and 3 wiki-sites source: they weren't added until the MSIP 1983, Post ALE-135C, Bascially F-15C/D Quote
SFP1Ace Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Ok, thanks guys! I might still PM Crusader, to satisfy my OCD . Quote
+streakeagle Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Original F-15As (not sure when this stopped) were delivered without ALQ-135 system... development issues. I have the books that would document what systems were added when... just have to dig up the facts. Quote
SFP1Ace Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Well that just begs to create several TW F-15A variants :) Quote
