rjw Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Thanks Widowmaker; You just broadened my knowledge with this post. I had never heard of Moore but I'm glad your posted the link to his tributes. An amazing man with and amazing career. Best Regards;
Slartibartfast Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I remember watching the show back in the late 70's and 80's and he made it all seem so different to the text books... R.I.P.
mikeymead Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Very sad news, the Sky at night will never be the same again.
UK_Widowmaker Posted December 9, 2012 Author Posted December 9, 2012 I believe he was a Navigator with Bomber Command too...very colourful charecter
JimAttrill Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 My mother used to watch his shows because he was so madly enthusiastic about stars. She didn't know a dicky bird about astronomy but enjoyed watching him. He always looked as if he had just got out of bed without brushing his hair.
+Polovski Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I watched Sky at Night because of him - loved his eccentricity. Many a British comic has done entertaining impressions of him over the years. A good innings 89 but sad to see him go.
+Olham Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 (edited) As a German with not much interest in astronomy I didn't know Sir Patrick Moore and his program "Stars at Night". So I looked into YouTube and found this video. For all who also didn't know him, and for all who liked his work, and himself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VprxhEq_YDE He seems to have been a truely original character; interesting, humourful - in two words: very British! May he now travel between the stars. Rest in peace, Sir Moore. Edited December 11, 2012 by Olham
JimAttrill Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I remember him as a much younger man - with hair!
